Based on the limited info from the Test Server, I submit a far-out theory on the current nature of Velious:

After the great melting, the continental expanse is open soil, and with the re-emergence of Tunare, the Plane of Growth area is now spreading it's influence beyond it's previous bounds.

The remnants of the ice sheet are now fragmented icebergs surrounding the continental core, the smaller of which are used as ships by the current survivors. Zone transportation options will likely include small, motorized (or pack animal driven) icecubes operated by either Gnomish Pirates or Othmir.

Either the Coldain or the Giants, or both, are still fighting the dragons, and are ransacking Kunark to discover an ancient weapon used by the Iksar against dragonkind.

Thoughts?

The ships off the coast of Fens are definately Giant made... and the fact that they were blasted and frozen on the side of the cliffs, leads me to believe that they are still fighting some very powerful creatures with the ability to freeze... an ice elemental dragon...

They are definately searching for something in Charasis, or they wouldn't make the trip to such a remote area. All their weapons are ice based, and they can conjur ice spirits, so it is definately looking like Velius is making a comeback.

The runes on the npcs are reminiscent of those inside Charasis.. so there might be a deep link there as well...

I think either Velious is not entirely ice like it used to be. If the Plane of Growth's influence is spreading beyond its bounds, it's likely that all or at least reasonably sized portion of the continent's core is forest..or at the very least, some rolling plains. Also, it could be a prismatic dragon, not neccesarily an ice-only dragon.

They did hint at the fact that the ice dragon from the Frostfell event would play a part in the future.

Tossing in floating plants and you might have something interesting, I'll have to take a look once Klornie clears the Test-Copy enterance.

In our timeline, Wuoshi was made a "guardian" of Growth and moved himself to Faydwer. I don't see how that could have done anything but diminish the influence of Growth in Velious.

Nevertheless, Velious was a bloody factional mess in EQLive, and I doubt the years have been kind. Should be interesting.
