im using a 3G HUAWEI mobile modem E160G switched between HSDPA that is fastest speed or 3G, connection speed is something like 3.6meg so more than enough to play mmo's

never had problems playing other mmo's i dont disconect from the net or xfire after a random time usualy between 5 and 20 min i get kicked from eq2, still ingame just cant cast or anything all i can do is move about but ill not actualy be going anywhere as its just client-side

when im using my wifi conection everything is fine, windows firewall has eq2 exceptions to alow it through no software firewall on using mobile net no virus software running, tried ping tests they come through 0% loss

anyone have any idea why im getting kicked but not loosing net conection?

Thanks

There is a difference between bandwith (3.6 Mb nominal for HSDPA or 3G) and latency. WWAN (Wireless Wide-area Networks) have a very bad problem with latency because of the way packets are handled on a cellular network.

Recently when I was in Belize, between the horrific wi-fi and whatever Internet pipe I was using, I could barely stay connected to Station Launcher for more than 2 minutes running because of latency. The bandwidth was running 200k plus, which is more than enough considering some people are still playing on dial-up.

I don't believe that SOE is best in class when it comes to this and even people with broadband regularly experience issues with connectivity to the authentication servers (which is where the real problems lies; Sony doesn't want people playing the game who aren't paid up on a minute by minute basis). However, I know people who have tried to play XBOX Live over their 3G and that doesn't work either. It simply requires too little latency for the service to work acceptably.

You may be able to adjust the TCP stack on your PC to allow for the WWAN connection, but it's doubtful. That kind of balancing usually requires changes on both sides and you obviously don't have that kind of control. However, if you want to give it a try, check out Dr TCP on dslreports.com.

In most cases you will actually be better off using a dial up connection over wireless broadband. The latency when connecting to a game server is just too high. People using sattelite experience the same problem due to the distance the information needs to travel.
