We have a guildie that I am posting for that has this issue where his Launcher is not stopping downloading.

so far EQ2 has been updating for about 24 hours, he has uninstalled and downloaded it, and updated..it keeps updating the same exact files over and over

He started by using the 2 CE dvds last night, when he woke up at about 7am today it said complete, and he launched the game, and it started updating the same files, stating another 12+ hour update, then he just uninstalled it, and went digital, and it did the same thing, right now it says there's 7 hours left, on the same stuff he's been updating all day

It shows him as the test server as the only server up?

Preferences is Grayed out and the Updater goes on forever..

This can normally be attributed to either a network/connection setting, a background application, or Windows Vista chicanery (if applicable). I can provide some suggestions - is your guildie using Windows XP or Vista?

Great. If you are using a Wireless connection and have the ability to used a Wired connection through ethernet cord, I would recommend doing so as our patcher can have some issues with wireless settings. Also, you may want to temporarily disable AVG, Norton, or any other security programs along those lines. Otherwise, can you give the following a try to start?

1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.Let me know if that had any effect!

It sort of worked, I had a 7 minute update and I could play, however the only two servers I can pick are Test Servers. I also restarted my pc after that, and it came up with another 20hr download, the updates seem random, I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong.

Greetings,

It sounds like you had the test environment selected. If you log in to the updating portion of the launchpad then you should see a 'Test Server' button in the upper left hand corner of the window. If you selected that during the download process then it would have started downloading the test client. Since the test client runs on a different version of the code, that would explain why it started download again the next time you logged in.

Make sure to start the game using the EQ2 icon and do not click the test server button. Once it finishes updating you should only need to update when patches are released. Let us know if you need any further assistance.
