I recently got EQ2 and have had several problems installing it. After updating this and that, downloading everything needed and getting a new graphics card i still can't play! Here's my problem. Everquest 2 starts up fine, I go to create a character, everything continues to be ok, then I pick a name and a server and click finish. The box saying "Submitting (username) to server for approval" pops up but then never disappears. My whole computer locks up and i can't exit anything. I am forced to manually turn off my computer. I tried choosing other servers, different names and randomly generated names but nothing works. Help would be appreciated.

Greetings,

I don't think the name you are trying to choose has anything to do with it. It sounds like your computer is locking up when trying to load the assets for the next window. I see you mentioned updating the graphics card. What graphics card were you using previously and what graphics card are you using now? Did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new card?

Thanks for the reply. I had a Nvidia 64, something and I upgraded to a Geforce 6200a, installed all the drivers. However, I got that problem solved when I picked a different starting city. I'd been trying to start in Freeport. Once I picked the other evil city, it put me in the game with ease. It ran a really choppy and would completely freeze at points(causing my first death) but I was pretty much ok with it. Then I went to log on today and after I hit play it started loading the zone and then I got the error "Unable to open crash log" and then closes the game. Now the slow game play might be caused by my computer, but all my specs are above whats needed.

When I first started playing EQ2 I was using a 6800ultra and it played ok at lower settings. If you're crashing whenever you load freeport then you might want to look for the freeport file in your Everquest 2 directory and delete it. That file could be corrupt, causing this issue.

Alright I'll try that, thanks. One more question, would not uninstalling your old drivers effect anything if you? even if they were disabled?

Driver residue on the system can cause massive problems in some cases. If you didn't uninstall the previous drivers then you might want to use a driver cleaner and completely remove any graphics card drivers from your computer before reinstalling with the new ones.

I actually make sure to completely reinstall Windows whenever I switch between ATI and Nvidia cards since that saves a lot of trouble.

Oh, the troubles I've had before figuring that out..
