Hi everyone,

I'm new to EQ2 cominng from wow, seems like there's a lot of us on the forums, and I'm just looking for some info on leveling and AA for my new toon, a Barbarian Mystic.

What type should I be taking? More dps or healing stuff? I'm not sure how grouping is, I remember EQ1 where I played a cleric, you pretty much needed a group to grind. Will I be soloing to 80 like wow or is it more like EQ1? And if I do go dps route what will be my role in groups? My main in wow is a shaman specced enhance so just straight dps class, is it like that or will I be healing in groups even though my AA is all buffing my dps? Will that just make me a weak healer and weak dps in groups? I saw someone looking for a healer for their group in general chat and they specifically said no shaman healers, is this class just bad at it or something? Also what stats are most important?

And for tradeskills, what do you guys suggest. Is it better to make armor or weapons while leveling or be a scribe and make upgraded spells when I can? Seems like I'll buy an upgrade from the npc merchants and 2 levels later I just get an upgraded version of the same spell with a slightly different name anyway, so is it worth getting the better spells?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

The answer to most of your questions is...it depends...on what you want to do. If you want to solo to 80, well more like 70 really then it starts getting very hard to solo but can be done, do a dps (mele) build and go for it. If you want to group, go for a healing build and do that. The AA's really determine, to a large part, what you can do well vs what you can't. I guess thats one of the advantages to a Mystic, they have some options where some other classes don't so much. Just a warning, its slow going at first, but just hang in there and it gets better.

Someone saying "No Shaman healers" usually they already have a Shaman in the group. Usually it's a bad idea to bring two Shamans into one group. Fear not, most people love us.

Im at level 25 now, and have ran a couple dungeons and I'm having a hard time with people accepting that Mystics are healers. Is it because of the level range I'm in or what? First group had a druid in it who was mentored down but he was dpsing more than healing. And the 2nd group was with a pally mentored down but we had an SK tanking.

I use my AE ward, which is master 1 and my single target ward which is master 2, whenever they are up, singe target on the tank of course. Now those will absorb around 1k dmg and if its a small pull no one gets hit because I have time to refresh wards when they cooldown. But on harder mobs when they out dmg the wards cooldown I'll throw a heal on whoever needs it then start my ward rotation again. The AE ward has a long cast time so Im spending around 7-8 secs warding again and peoples life isnt going up in the mean time, so in both groups the pally/druid starts healing. The wards dont really have a spell detail to show people they are warded and at the end of a tough fight everyones like good job healing druid/pally.... really? Is it always gonna be like this being the healer in groups?

It seems people think they arent taking dmg because their armor is so good or they're dodging everything, not because I'm doing anything to stop incoming dmg. And if another person throws a couple heals out during the fight they are thought of as being the person that kept the group alive. Now I'm not looking to have my ego stroked everytime I heal a group but its frustrating to know that your keeping everyone alive and someone else gets the applause and your thought of as a bad healer because what your doing is not as visible.

2 shaman in a group used to be a major no no. Now it isn't so bad, if they are the opposite classes. 2 mystics can even be ok as one can heal and one DPS, or a defiler and mystic is really nice. 2 defilers though is kinda poopy...

Herlo, the problem you're seeing is these mentors. No matter how good your gear is, no matter how highly upgraded your spells are, you aren't going to hold a candle to a mentored character. Mentored characters are very, very powerful. They have access to things you don't yet, and trying to compare yourself to them is an exercise in frustration.

Look at how you do compared to a like level healer. I think you'll be surprised at how well you stack up.

Mystics are fine healers, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. I am able to solo heal almost any group instance in the game at L80 on my Mystic. He has exactly 3 pieces of raid gear. The only zones I haven't solo healed are Ykesha's Outer Stronghold and Palace of Fehrzul. I strongly suspect that in the right group, I could solo heal those zones, but it would take a perfect group and we'd probably have a few "incidents".

It helps if you have a tank who warns you when you pull, then you can have him always prewarded, or at least start casting the ward when he is pulling
