First Fan Faire I went to was Boston (summer '02) - I didn't know what to expect, because although I'd been to a lot of conventions (Star Trek, comics, etc), this was something new for me, a gaming convention. Was great to meet guildmates and server friends for the first time!

San Francisco (summer '03) at the Metreon - cool venue but mostly remember having to keep going back and forth between there and the hotel where events were, and my hotel (which has since become my fave place to stay in SF - Hotel Union Square).

The FIRST Vegas FF ('03) - gamers taking over Quark's pretty much the whole weekend... oh, those fabulous Warp Cores, which became a staple of all Vegas FFs (and /sob/ Quark's is no more...)

I think the first Vegas was also the first time I met Brasse and saw her *incredible* costume-work.

Chicago Faire ('03) .... heh .... was also fun because it was in my home city. And the woman with the EQ shaman bear hat!!

Vegas ('04) 5th anniversary - my first effort at an EQ2 costume (member of the Rathe Council), participating as one of the quest givers for the LiveQuest.

New Orleans ('04) -- the Red Sox winning the World Series on my birthday!! Best b-day present EVER. The EQ parade through the French Quarter - the LiveQuest - the party on Bourbon St - and Halloween in New Orleans, which is a great deal of fun. This Fan Faire was made all the more poignant when Katrina hit the city the following year.

Back to Vegas again in '05... and it's been a few years since I got to go to Faire (had to miss last year's at the last minute, unfortunately) so I am very excited for this year's FF, especially as we've already got about 15 people from our guild signed up to go.

Vegas, baby, Vegas!!

MOST of all, though - Faire's about meeting and hanging out with all the friends you've made in game, making new friends... they've all been a blast.

I have been to 3 fan faires, and it will always be the first that seems the best,,,,and that was St. Louis. Yes, St. Louis was one of the 1st fan get togethers that SOE put together. It ended up being the launch party for EQ1's Ruins of Kunark of which I have a signed copy with about 20 or so signatures on the inside fold out. It was when I realized that a lot of people where out there that loved on-line gaming and the 'sight" factor of fantasy gaming. It was something I will never forget, and appreciate all the great people who put it together. (Of course it did not hurt that I lived in St. Louis at the time, and it was Mardi Gras weekend in Soulard as well.
