I have been kicking around the idea of rolling a defiler. I play on nagafen and my guild is short on healers. I talked it over with guildies and they all agreed that a defiler would be a nice addition. However, I do alot of solo pvp and questing and after reading posts on this forum I have some concern about actually playing the class. My question is this: would I be better off rolling an inquisitor or a defiler for the purposes stated above?

Personally I enjoyed questing and soloing on my defiler, albeit it was a very slow process.

That being said, I'm an exception to the general consensus of the population. Chances are, you'll find soloing as a defiler painfully boring. Inquisitors in general are going to be faster once you get the battle priest AA line trained. Once you get either to the higher end, though, defilers are going to be the stronger healer of the two. As far as PVP, I can't give an accurate assessment though I assume a defiler trying to kill another player would be about as much excitement as watching paint dry. Our wards are by nature extremely slow casting time (i.e. easy to interrupt I would think) and we aren't able to output a ton of damage between casts.

Honestly, just from what little you've given you'll more than likely enjoy leveling an inquisitor more but if you can stomach getting the defiler up to the higher levels they will be a much more potent healer.

Thank you for the advise on healing viability. I can stomache the slow kills but I am still curious how a defiler does in pvp. Any feedback from a PvP defiler would be much appreciated.

Solo as a defiler is painfully slow. I was a defiler on Venekor and Nagafen for about 2 years until just recently when my guild asked me to go back to Mystic. For the most part, you will be an easy update, but just keep going at it, and you'll find ways to survive and sometimes win.

From a PvP standpoint, if your aim is to stand out...my advise would be to solo at the early levels as much as possible to help you get a feel for the class. Also, always try and set up your own groups where your the only healer so that you can force yourself into getting better.

If you just wanna make sure your doing your job as a healer & standing out isn't your aim...then my advice would be to level up with a static group & mainly a good tank.

No matter what you do, being a Defiler is the most challenging healer to play on Nagafen, so your best bet is to be prepared in knowing the in's & out's of the class as much as possible.

Your gonna get killed a lot...your gonna get frustrated even more. But yeah...if you keep at it you just may fall in love with the class & never turn back.

Good Luck dude...

Marius

If you plan on staying defiler, my suggestion would be to find a group of friends or a good guild and stick with them. Solo pvp as a defiler sucks. Hard. It is possible, but it still sucks cause you will rarely ever kill anything fast. A good group that knows how to use a defiler though in pvp is wonderful. I will link some videos I made of me doing pvp in raids as a defiler when filefront is working again. i had some good single group videos, but they have gotten lost over time, and I can't find anyone that still has them.

Denna's Defiler videos

Granted this was awhile ago, but it shows what can be done with a good defiler and good supporting group/raid in pvp.
