Why? Because I wanna hear all the fun crap people would love to see in character appearences...especially with the new appearance slots for weapons and shields.

I'd love to see a 2h melee weapon with a bow graphic...call it the "Bow of the Bad Ranger"...you'd wield it just like a 2-handed crushing. Just beat people with the shaft of the bow. Extra points if the bow had a similar graphic to say, a ranger's epic or mythi...so in a pinch the ranger could just beat people over the head with it(this would require a onehanded piercing version).

A different style dress would be nice, ones without the ugly slits down the front. Roleplaying a 12-year-old little fairy girl showing that much leg....ugh.

The various vampire illusions, I'd love to have as wearable items. Especially the Bloodlines Chronicles illusion for the females...would look SO nice on some of my girls, but would prefer to keep my own body for it. Especially since the vamps are all non-SOGA in make, and I prefer the SOGA models.

I have given up hope of ever getting decent looking outfits for my female characters. The choice is either wear a dress slit all the way up the front and look like a bimbo or dress like a nun in a garishly colored robe.

Why do female monks get the only nice looking femal clothing in the game. Sure, give gis to monks. But make the gis look like something other than a spiffy bare midriff outfit that is a little bit sexy while being very stylish. Let us all have those outfits. In different colors please plus white/white, white/black, black/white, black/black.

We need gis, pants, tops, and skirts.

How about gear like the valkeries in Everfrost wear and the armor that the Bloodline Chronicles vampires wear? =) The valkeries are basically human models and those vampires are basically elf models, shouldn't be all that hard to do. Piratish gear like the pirates in Moors have =) GIVE ME STRIPY PANTS and HIGH BOOTS! More clothes in general. Do a recolor of the brown craftsman clothing you can buy from the city merchants. Females get pants with that, but the brown just doesn't do it for some characters.

More appearance wieldable tools. Maybe even make them related to tradeskills. There is that wrench you can get and provisioners have a couple of spoons and a rolling pin (though I wish there was a spoon that was one handed. Maybe add a spatula, I always wanted a spatula of doom. Revisit that redhot poker that was available during last summer's events. A clawhammer perhaps, some tongs like a smith would use to hold hot metal.

A 'face' slot would be fantastic as well. Then they could add things like monocles, glasses, eye patches, gnomish goggles with an actual graphic. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I got those and they had no graphic.

More helm varieties would be good. I kind of miss the dragon human helm, the antlered woodelf helm and the cat looking high elf helm from EQ1.

I agree, a "face slot" would be a welcome improvement, but implementing it may prove far more difficuilt being that most races have some of these items available during character creation (gnomes have glasses, ratongas have eyepatches and earrings, half elves have various piercings, etc.) It may be better in this respect to simply expand these options in character creation to add more extra accessories that are included for all races rather than making a slot for it.

Personally, I'd like to see some of the "city clothing" split up a bit. The shirts for example (such as the one in my sig) could be seperated from the skirts so that you can wear them with pants (it's already been done for the tradeskill faction merchant and the level 52 mastercrafted merchant vest) ... same with the male versions. They could have the shirts and pants split so that you can mix and match them. Also, it would be great to see some of the "joke" weapons from the pre-tso events make their way back into the game somehow... I didn't grab any of them because the stats sucked, but now that we have weapon appearance, seeing these would be nice.

Create a similiar series of items from the shadow brute weapon line. These weapons were part of a world event, and cannot be dropped anymore. They are tradeable and sell on the broker though. The ones I have are ones I saved from the world event.

I don't think these items should be added back into the game permanently, since they were a unique item from a world event, and should be treated as such. If they were to design something similiar though, to look as cool but indicate that it is not an item from the world event, that would be great. Perhaps change the color/size or slightly change the design a bit and make it a no-trade quest reward.

Here is one of the ones I saved:

Looks pretty awesome, huh?

The outfit was briefly available about the time that KoS went live, if I remember correctly. It's been a long time. There was a huge community uproar when the devs changed the appearance. Thankfully, Sony has gotten rid of most of the more obnoxious developers since then, because the general attitude of the developers was pretty poor in response to the community's concerns. Moorgard (or maybe it was Blackguard) pretty much just said "We don't care if you like it. We don't." If only Domino had been in charge back then! She'd have left it in-game and probably given us five different color variations.

Silken@Butcherblock wrote:

Fine, don't give us gis.
it was a very low level quest reward from The Caves off antonica I beleive. and the reason that they 'took it away' was because on males, if you didn't notice, you were naked on top with teh just the metal plate adn teh straps. the females it distorted the plate and yes, she is 'naked' on top. they didn't like how it looked on female toons I believe and rather then try to adjust it or make it work right, they just changed the graphic to a generic leather look. I wore it on my kerran monk, who I got rid of shortly after.

This was back in the days when people thought 6 to 10 hour named mob camps were fun. If you wanted the item getting it was a whole day event. Most people didn't bother with it or even knew about it. It was arround the release of KoS that changed the spawn on the quest mob to always be up and from a heroic to solo. Suddenly lots of people had the item and were wearing it in their chest slot even at level cap. Then out of the blue the devs just took the item away and noone was allowed to have it. There was indeed a large uproar from the community and the devs basically didn't give a hoot. I deleted all my female toons in protest. That was over 3 years ago now.

I post about it every once in a while hoping the attitude at SoE would change and maybe some new open minded dev like "Domino" would put the graphic back in the game in some form.
I want:

Kilts for Halasians

Better underwear - I am not asking for Victoria's Secret, but I would pay plat for lingerie that is not dirty, torn up, rough canvas underwear! How about a nice camisole and tap pants set, for goodness sakes?

Separates! Give us mix-and-match tops and skirts!

More modest gear - some people want less "slit to the hoohah" styles.

More sexy gear - the rest of us want stuff that shows a little more skin without going into the land of [Removed for Content].

I'm not going to talk about specific appearance items. I'm going to talk about general ways the developers can make character appearance more customizeable.

#1 Biggest Thing

Appearance-only, no-stat armor pieces that have no visible graphic. SWG has had this ever since their appearance tab came out. I think the invisible stuff there is made by crafters, and it's fairly expensive when you can find it for sale (never had a tailor on there, only structures/shipwright). No chest or legs, but every other visible armor slot should have something invisible to put on the appearance screen. Of course, with their whole "you can't wear an appearance item lighter than your actual armor" rule, they'd probably never go for it. (What was that they said a loooong time ago about PvP never interfering with PvE...)

If outfitters/tailors/armorsmiths could make no-stat armor with no graphic, it would help a lot of people with their character appearance. I know my ratonga assassin would love to show off his hand and foot claws, but he can't, unless he [Removed for Content] himself by removing gear. Limiting that gear by not allowing chest or legs to be hidden will still keep the PvP crowd able to know their opponent, but characters could choose to have a chain chestpiece with no arm coverings, or leave off the gloves for "better dagger work." I just don't see the point of having a race with carefully-designed claws, and then covering those claws up as soon as you get your first pair of gloves and/or boots.

Of course, they COULD just take a page from LotRO, and have toggles available for hands and feet at the very least. I think my way is better, as it creates more crafter business. Just toss the recipes into a new set of books dropped from mobs... The Emperor's Gloves, The Emperor's Shawl, etc (from The Emperor's New Clothes, of course :p )

#2

Get rid of the crappy dress design with the slits in the front. People have been complaining about that design since beta, and it's never been changed. Get rid of the pantsuit look with robes. Make dresses and robes that actually fall to the ground all around the character, covering them down to the ankles, and make those robes available at low levels. Other games have done this (even EQ1). See the next item on the list for what to do in place of these bad designs...

#3

Put more variation into the textures for equipment in general. I'll invoke SWG again here... When an item in SWG is created, you can select primary and trim colors (number of selections dependent on crafter skill). You can also select a general texture appearance for some items. Even a mid-level structures trader has 3-4 different choices for the appearance of a simple decorative fountain. Use the resources on the internet to see what armor, weapons, and clothing REALLY looked like.

It would be complex, but adding a visual selection at the end of the crafting process would really help people create something they'd enjoy wearing. Allow a selection of colors based on your overall crafter tier. Give a few different choices of item texture, again based on crafter tier. For example, a T1 Artisan can make a brown robe with the default texture. A T2 Outfitter can make a brown or gray robe with a choice of two textures. At T3 Tailor and above, he starts getting primary colors, with gradation between colors getting better as he levels up. He also gains one new pattern each tier. Put clothing choices in for different regions, as well. Add some faction-restrited clothing based on city of origin. Someone from Freeport isn't going to have the same fashions available as someone from Kelethin. Put these recipes in a NO-TRADE book on a merchant that onlytalks to people of the correct faction, and restrict the final product to be wearable only by that faction (don't know if this is possible or not).

Similarly, a Weaponsmith at T3 could have three choices for weapon appearances. The graphics are already in-game, y'know. For that matter, just allow a WS to choose SIMILAR weapon appearances from the same tier. Suppose I want the specific stat bonuses on a falchion, but I think the sabre has a better appearance? They're both 1-handed slashing weapons, right? I actually had this debate going on in my head for the T2 mastercrafted/imbued weapons I was making for my Assassin. I wanted the look of the saber and a curved knife (I think the ritual knife), but I wanted the stats and weapon speed on the falchion and, um, the other knife (I dunno which, but it had a 1.6 delay like the falchion). Allow high-end weaponsmiths and armorsmiths to tint their weapons in the tempering process. (This is more permanent than dye.) Give us some pattern welded designs to work with for metal armor and weapons.

Bring the adventurers and harvesters in on it, too. Put the extra patterns/textures in rare mob-dropped recipe books. I'd bet there would be a significant demand for them even if there was only ONE pattern per book. Require dropped recipes and special optional components for coloration (carrots for orange, squid ink for black, etc). Put books in to describe the tempering process needed for each color of metal, and require a component for that as well (IRL it doesn't require anything for most colors, but we can add stuff for effect and balance).

Lots of folks were not able to run the game in the higher settings (more so than today), and when that particular piece was subjected to low settings, it looked really really bad. It's too bad they didn't come up with a re-release of it... it was actually pretty nice otherwise.

I'd like to see some different hairstyles as well, the arasai males are SOOOOO emo haircuts. Some hairstyles for SOGA that more closely resemble the non-sogas might be cool too, since right now you can sorta maybe kinda not really match it to your SOGA appearance...it'd be nice if my non-soga could look like my soga (and cmon, some of the non-soga hairstyles would look COOL if it weren't for the play-doh look.)

back to appearance items...invisible clothing definitely. More defining, original styles on hard-to-obtain clothing (like hard raidmob pieces should never look like a low 70's treasured piece. Ever.)...or how bout a cloak revamp, so half the cloaks don't look like crap. A new overlay for the guild cloaks too, to show folds in the fabric similar to the newer, niftier cloaks...the guild cloaks look like they are made out of clay and generally are ugly.

Some more asymmetrical armor would also add flavor. One arm fully covered in plate? one arm fully covered in chain? Leather pads on one side with cloth on the other? Arm bands on one side and a spiky pauldron on the other? I like the path they've taken with the appearance pauldrons, but there is such an untapped wealth beyond that that would be golden.

More styles of Pants as well as skirts, kilts, dresses, etc. Some plain old pants are lacking. Knee breeches? Casual Trousers? Slacks? Cloth pants with knee plates? Loricated mail skirts?

How about some new styles of attire in general? Beggar's patchwork clothing? Open vests on bare chests? Fez hats? Long coats? And a whole crapload of new hats. I enjoy the hats immensely. A real fedora would be nice. Maybe a barbett? Berrets? Circlets? Crested helms? I'd adore a re-creation of the Iksar's old Bat Hat (Old-Model Plate Graphic) from EQ 1. Maybe add in Sashes to some of the existing pants and leggings? Bare-chest, open robes? Combination armors, like chain sleeves with plate pauldrons or cloth sleeves with spiked Xegonite-style chain epaulets?

I will deffinently agree with resizable weapons. I know I'd love to see a Gnome running around using a Longsword as a two hander. Why should it shrink when a smaller hand grabs it? Likewise, I can think of some large weapons that I'd love to see at reduced sizes. Sometimes, that assassin's knife is just a touch too bulky, you know? Changable graphics are good, but a major change like that I would be sure to limit to crafted weapons. Even if you wear an appearance over it, a Wurmslayer should always look like a Wurmslayer. I wouldn't mind seeing Particle effects that are addable. Perhaps made a very rare breed of fabled or mythical adornment that adds a bit of a shimmer to a weapon on top of the stats, or makes it drip blood?

More Masks would be good.

How about changable wield styles? Just for giggles, allow yourself to change the attack animations of that sword and shield to swing like a two hander, or wield those twin axes with Monk's movements?

All just rambled on, silly ideas.

Some real boots would look nice. Cuffed boots (real pirate boots) and jackboots for men, high boots for women. Right now all I see are foot wraps, some kind of poncy Italian Rennaisance ankleboots, and something that looks like skateboard gear but is called a 'boot'

Surcoats and tabards - this is a hard one I know, but would be nice

Baldrics as an alternative to cloaks. Most weapons that were carried used a baldric instead of a belt. Belts were for keeping pants up.

Loose fitting belted tunics.

Hooded cloaks... I know, I know... "Class hat"

Male Formal wear that doesn't look like a jester outfit. Italian Ren would even be better than that thing. But long woolen coats with embroidery would be more suitable.

This goes in line with my broken record request to actually add someone with costume design experience to the art team.
Of all the things that I do NOT want to see, it would have to be joke items. This is a fantasy kill stuff to get better game, not Hello Kitty cooks a dragon dinner game. Nothing but legit weapons should be allowed in the weapons slots...would make me want to slap anyone I saw attacking the endline boss with a fleaping fork.

Also, I've always hated that there was plate armor listed as cloth, which allows all the clothies to run around in plate if they want. It ruins the concept for me. How about instead of doing that, you guys just, you know, actually added more designs and textures to the cloth catagory armor? Mainly the pants. Good god is it hard to find a pair of pants that match certain item because most of them that match the style are jet black with no texture or secondary colors.

The same NPC can have the same chance to drop a single piece, but which piece you're going to get becomes an even slimmer percentage. I didn't get far enough in beta to get the sweet looking armor, but I know they have some.

I'm always asking for new armor appearances as well. But I look at those screenies and see....no dwarfs. No fae or arasai fairy races. No halflings or gnomes. No iksar. Definitely nothing like a sarnak or a froglok. Funny how they're all these hot humanoids with perhaps the addition of the little Aion wings, but essentially you're talking a few character models for an entire game. When these games are able to introduce the variety of races that EQ2 has and still produce that quality and style of clothing for all of them, I'll start leaning on the EQ2 devs a lot harder again.

Perhaps with the race change potion coming up, everyone could just become an elf or a human. I bet they could do LOTS of armor design if we had nothing but those to worry about. Oh wait.....people WANT to be frogloks or fae or gnomes? Well, heck....

And yes, I do throw my two copper in for better clothing choices, and I hope the expansion lives up to all the promises that were made at Fan Faire.
