So I want to build a new computer just for EQ2, I did some searching to find this answer on these forums, but didn't get a real answer... How much memory do you need to play EQ2 with maximum quality? I mean I read on the forums that EQ2 was originally written to work on x86 systems so it can only utilize 2GB... But maybe that's an old post? I mean on a new machine running WinXP 64 or Vista it can actually make use of 4 gigs right? And if so, does more than 4 gigs actually help? If I ended up getting 16 gigs of ram, would it play EQ2 any better than if I played with 4 or 8 gigs?

Thanks in advance

Greetings,

More memory will help, but it wont effect Everquest 2 directly once you get past around 3.5GB. The game was designed for the x86 architecture so it can not address anything above that at the moment. Keep in mind that more memory can still improve performance beyond that level if you tend to run other programs in the background.

4 gigs with vista x64 will do you nice, for fun one day I loaded up 3 instances of eq2 and I was at 95% ram utilization. I really just wanted to see what would happen.

I recently went from 4 to 8 GB and can say that it made no real difference with eq2 except slightly faster loading speeds but this is most likely due to the fact that my new RAM was also faster.
