New to the game and in no hurry to level, would prefer to be geared and have my skills maxed along the way. Have a couple questions.

Can someone try to explain to a new guy how Locking Combat XP benefits the player?

Is Combat XP the same thing as leveling XP so are you locking your level in to raise your weapon skills before leveling further?

Another question off topic. If you defect before choosing your sub class as a Brig will you become a Swash on the good side or will you be a good Brig?

Thanks in advance.

You no longer choose a subclass; the documentation is woefully outdated. You choose your class from level 1. Being a Brig makes you evil by default, but you can betray over to the good side, and one of the good cities, as a good Brigand. www.eq2.wikia.com and look up Betrayal timeline for the walkthrough.

Turning off combat XP means you get quest XP, new discovery XP for new lands, and achievement XP, so you'll still level up, just slowly. Check out some of the stuff in the PVP section of the forums, it'll cover your questions in more depth.

Okay thank you I understand now, you just dont get XP from killing mobs,

Thanks to bloodfangs link found this bit of information.

Note: On PvP servers, you can betray and play the good classes in the evil cities and the evil classes in the good cities. In other words, you can have a templar in Freeport or a brigand in Qeynos. This is only applicable to PvP servers.

And in case you want completely lock your level for some time, you should lock Combat XP and Quest XP altogether. You will still get achievement XP though, but this won't level you up of course
