Official lore on Solusek:

"The Plane of Sun is ruled by Solusek Ro, the Burning Prince. His father, Fennin Ro is the Tyrant of Fire who rules the greater elemental Plane of Fire, from which the Plane of Sun derives its power. Solusek wears a suit of golden ringmail and a crown of flame and wields a spear of fire. He is allied with no one, enemies with no one. He has a friendly rivalry with Mithaniel Marr."

He is said to be the patron deity of Wizards, and most Wizards worship him as a result. In EQ and EQ2 it is also not uncommon for Magicians and Conjurors to worship him, being the closest to a pure elemental god as it gets besides the four primary elemental gods.

I believe he would be considered a Chaotic/Discordant Neutral deity, acting neither for good nor evil but rather to his whims.

He was the original deity that caused the great forest on what was once Antonica (name?) to wither away and become a lifeless desert now known as the Desert of Ro. He also has a volcano named after him (Solusek's Eye), and a temple dedicated to him in Lavastorm (Temple of Solusek Ro). At one point in history prior to being overrun it was the center of Solusek Ro worship.

Though he is officially enemies with no one, his worshippers consider creatures of the Void to be their mortal enemies, including the Shadow Men. They have waged a war against the Shadow Men for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

In EQ1 it was necessary to kill Solusek Ro to gain access to the Plane of Fire.

Outside of EQ2 lore (during an expansion that occured after the EQ1/EQ2 timeline splits) he was one of the driving deities behind stripping Mayong Mistmoore of his godhood.

Various pictures of him, both from EQ1 and EQ2 exist.

Yeah, he's sort of a Megalomaniac. If he sees an opportunity to obtain more power, he'll take it.

He arched up the Serpentspine Mountains and burned down the Elddar Forest of old Tunaria, forcing the elves to move, just because he was bored.

He struck a deal with Rallos Zek in the Planes of Power by agreeing to load his Dresolisk Crystal onto Rallos' Behemoth War Machine, and then use the time portals located in the Plane of Time to send it back in time to Norrath, detonate the crystal, and scorch all of Norrath so that the survivers would have to battle and fight out of dispair and desparation.

They failed, thanks to us.

Rallos and Solusek didn't stop there though. They went with plan B: Invade the Nexus up on Luclin and load up the Dresolisk Crystal there. It is assumed that they detonated it to make Luclin explode.

He's done some good stuff in the past too, but these are just the most evident and memorable things he's done.

Forgot to mention, for more information on Solusek Ro, do his deity quest. Since he's a neutral deity, he's available to all classes.

His followers, by and large, will be people focused on the acquisition of power. The exact motivation behind wanting power doesn't matter; some might want it to help others, others might want it to lay waste to their enemies. You could make that case that that's another reason why so many of his followers are mages.

In that vein, Solusek doesn't go lightly on those who disrespect his power. He burnt down the elves' forest as punishment to the other gods for leaving him out of the creation of the mortal races. He also sided with Rallos Zek during the Second Rallosian War because mortals dared to enter his plane and destroy his manifestation.
