I have a <a title="Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive - OEM(New Window)" name="CART_ITEM" href="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136062" target="_blank">Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive running on a ASUS A8N-SLI Premium 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard along with an WD ide hdd.

the question i have is should i be running the SATA drive on a raid setup? reason i ask is because my windows wont boot off of the SATA drive. i have to have my IDE drive connected for it to give me an option to both from either one. ive read some online about needing a raid driver disk during the first part of the windows setup in order for windows xp(im running XP Pro SP2) to be able to boot from it but i dont have a FDD on my pc.

if i format my IDE hdd then my PC says no boot device found even though my BIOS shows the SATA drive and even has it listed as a Boot device listed after my IDE drive. when i reinstalled windows on my IDE drive, it would only boot from the IDE drive. i had to run windows setup again and install it again on the SATA drive in order for it to give me the option to boot from either one. i'm not very familar with SATA or Raid so im not sure if i should be running that type of setup.

any suggestions or help would be greatly appriceated. i intended to use the SATA drive as my Main boot drive and the IDE drive as a secondary storage drive.

thanks again in advance

I'm not walking you through the process, however download nlite and "slipstream" your raid drivers. This will allow winxp to have them on the disc where it can use them.

Take winxp, copy to HD, run nlite, config etc, slipstream drives, burn need bootable winxp cd. Oh and put the CD in a paper cover and tape it inside the case for when you have to re-install if ever.
