I am curious to how a SKs dmg stacks up to a Dirge, now a dirge isnt the highest dps scout but they still can put out some damage. and an SK can most likely beat them especially AOE. so my question really is HOW MUCH better is the sks dmg out put

SK is usually ahead by a considerable amount on single targets. On multi-mobs, the SKs are waaay ahead.

I play both and grouped/raided with both (though I had shelved my dirge for awhile when TSO came out...just pulled him out again). My experience is generally SKs well ahead...for a couple of reasons....

(As a dirge) In groups...mobs die pretty fast...and I generally lead with all debuffs/buffs to help speed up the kills/increase surviveability. I'm usually watching out for ways I can benefit the group most...timing AOE stun, Oration if needed, fear/stun/slow/debuff an add...rez a groupmate etc..and working on DPS between what I consider to be more important contributions as a dirge.

Same in raids....rez duty (which can take you out of the fight for multiple seconds at a time), landing and maintaining debuffs are first and foremost (so kicking DPS into fights a few seconds later than most, and taking a few seconds out here and there for to re-apply), timing some key abilities etc....keep me from going all out all the time. Also, being a class that can maintain average DPS and longer term debuffs without a crazy amount of management leaves me as a decent choice for....calling timers/working the ACT, managing script events. hehe...so I get saddled with it usually.

Anyway, just my personal experiences with both.

You are comparing a scout and a tank... now if you were to say that you are Always going to just DPS on the SK it would be an accurate comparision but you will find few if any groups that will take on an SK as JUST dps, outside raids.

As for DPS, the SK (assuming they are tanking... which negates this), will most likely be a ways over the dirge, as they are the first contact class against the mob, and the dirge SHOULD be doing dirgey things to the mob to allow the other classes to do painful things better. This comparision is a bit skewed because just like the above poster said, the dirge is a multi-talented class... capable of dps BUT their claim to fame is their utility, not just in the form of group buffs, but also debuffs.

In all honesty, If all your interested in is DPS, I'd look at Assasin, or another class that's purely orientated in that direction.
