Windows XP 32 bit here.

The patcher has been working fine for like 3 years until last tuesday's patch.

Since that day, it fails to update the modified files.

What happens is the following:

Patcher says "decompressing random_file_name_delta", and it stays stuck on this message.

If I cancel and restart the download I get a "download cancelled" message.

On top of that, I can't close properly the patcher: if I close it the process launchpad.exe is still running in the background and I can not even kill it.

I can't even restart my computer properly due to that process that won't stop, and have to shutdown the computer by turning power off.

I also can not delete the guilty file while launchpad is running as it locked access to the file.

The only way to get it running is to restart computer, delete the updated file by hand, and run the patcher.

And then it gets stuck on next file and I gotta do it again (restart computer, delete file, run patcher).

Of course this is not an acceptable solution in the long run.

Please let me know how I can fix this issue or fix your patcher, otherwise I won't be able to play that game for much longer.

Have you tried using EQ2.exe to update rather then the Station launcher?

Yes I'm using eq2.exe Seems like it worked fine for a few days (I think I saw it decompress some files), but now it's stuck again on eq2ui_mainhud_welcome.xml_delta So apparently all files do not trigger the problem.

The beta Station Launcher?

I just start eq2.exe It's the patcher installed with the retail box of the game. So most likely not the beta station launcher. I have the problem again today, this time with the LON update. On a side note, thank you so much for making me download a game I don't even play btw ...

LoN is part of EQ2, no way to seperate it. Its kinda of like asking for no more updates in Qeynos because I dont go there.

Greetings,

Based on your description of the issue, it sounds like an anti-virus is blocking the files from being modified. That would account for the process not closing correctly after a failed patch. Are you running any kind of anti-virus on that computer? If so, which? Assuming you are using that type of program, please disable it temporarily so we'll know whether or not it is causing the problem.

LoN is not a core component of EQ2, unlike say races, classes, zones/encounters, combat mechanics, crafting .... At most it's an expansion of the game and should have removed optional asac.

Anyway while there would be a nice discussion to have about LoN, I guess this is not the issue at hand nor the proper forum, so let's forget about LoN

So a little update: today the problem occurs again. Those are the last lines of the patcher log file Everquest2patch.log: ... [18:44:37] Patcher: Downloading Distribution Main Distribution ------------------ [18:44:37] Patcher: Downloading EverQuest2.exe [dloadsize=6185170; totalsize=14282752; crc=988588706] [18:44:42] Patcher: Downloaded Delta file for EverQuest2.exe (dloadsize=184063 [18:44:42] Patcher: Reading in delta data: h:jeuxeqEverQuest2.exe_delta [18:44:42] Patcher: Removing delta data: h:jeuxeqEverQuest2.exe_delta [18:44:42] Patcher: Combining delta data into h:jeuxeqEverQuest2.exe So it seems like the patchers hangs when merging the delta file with target outdated file. Just in case this shades some light ...

something suspect: I use filemon to try and find out the guily program. File mon logged some accesses to F:Program FilesSonyStationLaunchPaddelta.hld Apparently the file is supposed to be deleted and rewritten by the patcher. But when I check the last modification date for that file it's from last week. Which puzzles me as it was supposedly just modified by the patcher ....

It's possible that the files are being set to read only by another program. While I don't know what program that would be, we should be able to remove the flag.

1. Navigate to the Sony folder (Default: C:Program FilesSony)2. Right click the 'Sony' folder and select 'properties'3. Go to the 'General' tab4. Uncheck the box that says 'read-only' at the bottom of that window5. Select 'apply to all files/folders' when prompted

Those files might get set back to read-only, but hopefully you can update in the meantime.

So the problem still persists. I've tried the read only thing and it does not help. Is there a procedure to reinstall the launcher ?
