Hey all

When I run EQ2 the patcher scans the files ok, but as soon as it starts to download latest patch stuff, it just goes back to Download Cancelled and if I try to restart it by clicking the Download button under the UPDATE box, it just cancels itself again!

I'm installing from the boxed edition Everquest 2 All Expansions including Ruins of Kunark. It's a year or two old, but it's installed fine up to here.

I use my PC as Administrator, and UAC has been disabled for ages. Although the only thing I don't quite understand is that although I can Run the program in compatibility mode for Windows XP, Service Pack 2. I can't change the Privilege level, even though I AM the Admin???

Cheers for any help you might be able to provide. I've searched but couldn't find anything relating specifically to my problem.

The fact that the "run as admin" option is greyed out indicates that your account has some administrative rights but not all. You might want to try the walkthrough again but get the directory walk through done. You may also wish to contact Microsoft or the company that sold you the computer and get them to help you log into the actual administrative account Here is the full walk through. It is worth your time to try:

1.Right click on the program launch icon

2. Left click on "Properties".

3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.

4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.

6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.

7.Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".

8.Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

You can also go to your EQ2 directory in Sony in C drive and follow the steps below:

1.Right click on the EQ2 folder.

2.Select the Security tab.

3.Highlight each account in the box on the top of the page one at a time.

4.In the lower box make certain that all of the check boxes are set for allow.

5.Do this for each account in the upper list.

6.Hit accept and close.

If you want help with the walk through please feel free to contact us.

email supportchat support

You can reach us Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm PST, except holidays, at 1-858-537-0898.

Hey, hubby and I both had the same issue today on our different PCs. His is XP and mine is Vista 64, he discovered that if you keep clicking the little Download link under the bigger button where play appears, that the update will eventually go in, just keep clicking Download every time it cancels and eventually you will get the whole update. Looks like this is a problem on SOEs end.

Its a connection issue on your end not SOEs actually. Your PC is stopping the download. Generally if you delete the cache folder in the EQ2 directory you will be good to roll. Also be sure to add EQ2.exe to your PCs security programs, or remove and readd it after you have patched the programs and Windows UPdate.

Just does exactly what Miramis82 said, tries to download update then cancels itself, so I click button again, it tries again for a couple of seconds then cancels itself again.

Really struggling to find a reason why now, I've even enabled the "true" Administrator account and tried it through that, but the Privilege box is greyed out there too! Just can't work it out

Oh and I've tried running the program by right clicking it and choosing "Run as Administrator" option, but that doesn't work either. The download just cancels itself after the file scan as usual.

I also tried creating a shortcut through the Task Scheduler as described in one of the stickys on this forum, but that didn't work either. Boo I'm only on a 14 day trial, I forgot to mention that, or rather 12 and a half days trial now

Same problem and same solution as miramis82. Setting compatibility mode did nothing, as did setting file permissions and I already set the shortcut up to run as admin. Repeatedly clicking the Download button did the trick (after about 6 or 7 attempts).

I'm glad it's just a connection issue on my end 'cos that fully explains why others I know on different ISPs and in different countries are experiencing the same issue at the same time.</sarcasm>

not SoE issue, your PeeCee. If it was SOE you'd see more then 3 people complaining, myself included.

Youve GOT to have some security program blocking it. Have you

powercycled modem/router?

disabled firewalls to test

verified motherboard has no firewall/security running. Why dont you guys post some information as from http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=353617 cause your not giving us anything to go off of.

I was having same problem. Instead of getting involved with all these permission settings, try doing simplist first.

Instead of clicking the shortcut on your desktop, go into the eq2 folder and launch it from the folder itself instead of your shortcut. Not saying it will work for you, but thats all i had to do. My desktop shortcut kept giving me the download loop.

Generally this is an issue after every patch, due to the exe file changing. Again it should be fixable with a powercycle of the modem/router, and maybe removeing and readding the EQ2.exe or Station Launcher now in the PCs security programs.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=422521

Kithal@Permafrost wrote:

Again if this was an SOE issue, we would ALL be complaing of the issue.

Not necessarily. Europeans and Americans don't download patches from the same location because we get patches (other than expansions) a day later. I'm on Splitpaw and others have mentioned in the thread that they're on Runnyeye. A Euro-specific problem would explain why someone could patch a test copy but not their main installation too since the two installations would run in different region configurations.

I've had enough minor glitches that I automatically go through all the basics for fixing them so yes I did reboot my router, modem and PC and cleared my cache and logincache-eu folders.

I think this may be Euro only? Funny how it's people from Splitpaw and Runnyeye with the same issue, also guildies reported same problem at around the same time. Coincidence? I think not, something wasn't right with whatever this update entailed, whether it's cleared up or not I don't know, maybe it's linked to whatever caused Runnyeye to go belly up earlier a couple of times.
