Hiya, returning player here(well, played a Paladin right after release till level 22 so I am actually a newbie ) and enjoying my SK so far in Timorous Deep. I did the crafting tutorial in Gorowyn and can now choose my profession. I did browse the Broker a bit to see what sort of wares are offered (and to what prices) but the amount of stuff for sale is daunting.

I like to have good upgrades to my spells and make them myself but it looks like crafters will only be able to craft spells up to Adept III? Not Master? I also have no clue how easy the money comes in later in the game(from loot and selling drops), right now at level 13 I barely have a single gold so it seems rather costly to buy all your own spell upgrades(thus making the Scholar profession an attractive choice). But if the PP comes flowing in at later levels then I guess I could just buy all my Adept III upgrades.

Is there any market for furniture? Or weapons? Did not seem as if crafted weapons were very good but I may have looked wrong. I guess I am looking for an insider look at EQ2's current economy. I am not looking to get rich from crafting, It'll be a thing to do on the side, just want to choose something that will not leave me broke all the time because I have to spend all my money buying essential upgrades.

Thanks for any help!

It sounds like its your first character so your options are pretty large. As far as spells I find for most things adept 1 will carry you through fairly well, its not the best but it will work. That being said being your own spell maker can really reduce your own personal cost because you can produce your own spells if you desire to make adept 3's or if there arnt any adept 1 on the market being able to create an appr 4 till you can upgrade later on. The next option I would consider is equipment namely armor and jewelry, sadly crafted weapons get replaced far to quickly.

If you become an armorer you can supply yourself with plate and chain armor which would be slower to be replaced then weapons would be, similar things could be said about the jewelry on the lower levels.

One thing to look for is the differences between the "common" and the "rare" products the common stuff is often replaced with quested and dropped gear while products created with rare materials in other words mastercrafted can take longer to be replaced.

As far as the cost goes it mostly depends on how much time you are willing to invest in harvesting if you do all your harvesting yourself and collect money via crafting writs you can make a small profit through that method as well as offering your services throughout the tiers. However if you don't have the time or the patience to harvest and prefer to do all your material gathering through the broker the cost can be pretty high.

On your other question about money on the higher end I have seen it vary greatly depending on play style, I have seen people who often raid and have more money then they sense mostly because they have nothing to spend it on due and still selling off dropped masters and undesired gear, and on my spectrum you get a couple plat a day if you know where to look or are willing to advertise your services at the right times.

It helps if you choose one that compliments your Adventuring Class but there is no rule that you have to go that route.

If you join a medium sized or more guild generally you will find that there are craftes of all stripes within. Some make money at it, most do not. The ones that make money are the ones that have found a niche that works for them and how often they want to be tied to the broker/advertising and price checking.

At the very top end any tradeskiller can make money, on the way up harvesting and selling harvests and collectables is probobly more profitable. Adornments are my main sellers now on my armorer and jeweler at the top end. Top end comsumables are where the regular cash seems to be at.

If I was to restart on a new server I would fund my nest egg with some collecting/harvesting runs and go on from there to make a few pieces of t1 rare armors for the twink market/apearance slots.

Any tradeskill can make money, but most folks lose money tradeskilling, it is a most effective money/time sink.

Thanks guys, made up my mind and going for Scholar right now. I like to harvest my own stuff (taking it slow) so I will try to make some money out of the extra stuff I harvest.

Keep in mind that for an SK, spell upgrades are done my an alchemist and not a sage.

Sage does caster spells, alchemist does fighter spells/combat arts, and jeweler does scout combat arts.

I do OK on the broker with my carpenter.
