There's another post on this here, http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...438358

But the default response seems to be "Sorry, it's a VPN issue" without actually reading the replies. So - I'm hoping a new thread will bring new eyes, and someone will actually research the issue.

So let's start off with some facts:

1) China Telecom is the largest ISP in China. It's an ADSL connection, you get an ADSL router that connects to your wall and then to your computer, similiar to a Cable connection in the states.

2) I'm assuming that they do not use a VPN. Why? Because China has the largest online population in the entire world (hell, over 50% of WoW's subscription base is from China). I highly doubt Sony is the only company that gets "spam" from VPNs and blocks them. Thus - we can put 2 and 2 together: If China is the largest online population & China Telecom is their biggest ISP, and they are not blocked by any other company in the world..... they are not a VPN.

3) The TSR's seem to have overlooked the fact the people stated they could log on to their old accounts in the previous thread. Only new accounts seem to be blocked - if this is true, then it seems to be an account issue, and not a connection related issue. I personally find it odd that after i recieve the 41780 error message, the next screen is a login screen and when I type in my credentials, it says Invalid Username and Password.

This would be easy to research on the back-end. The TSR stated many people play from China. So, how many of them are new accounts? What's the latest account created? (Maybe this issue just started within the past 2 months) How many people connect from China Telecom? (this will at least prove to you it's not a VPN)

I apologize if the post comes off as brash or rude. I just find it silly that the TSR's are quick to dismiss this issue as "a simple VPN problem, contact your ISP"...

..I mean, from a business perspective.... if there is even the remote risk you are accidently blocking the largest online community in the world.. you should be all over it in an attempt to fix it.

If you do a search on the web, you'll see tons of posts in Chinese with locals having this problem. They all contact support, and sadly get the same canned response back. Again, silly to alienate huge playerbase.

I myself decided to test what was posted in the other thread (that old accounts can log in fine)... So, I reactivated an account that's about 2-3 years old.

... and can enter the game and play just fine. Of course, this is a rip-off, as I would rather use the recruit a friend service with a new account - and give my friend a free month, since the only reason I'm coming back to the game is because of him.

So - this IS an account issue, and NOT a VPN issue. Please stop blaming it on VPN or any sort of connection specific issue and follow up with the product team or something.

Also - Is there a way to get a RAF code to apply to my account? Since this is your issue, and not mine...

Herein is my opinion of your issue:

We all know that dirty farmers come from China, so I am not worried about the 10 real players that cant login to play if itkeeps the rest out. I'm sorrry you cannot play but Chinese farmers and hackers are a huge issue in MMOs and the chinese goverment wont do a thing to stop this illegal activity.

One of the main CSRs even posted before how farmers (he did not state as coming from China though, but we know better) are using stolen credit cards to fraudulently cvharge crap.

SOE has stated they dont block IPs; but I dont care if they do, if it keeps farmers out of the game.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=411660

So your opinion is actually nothing constructive at all with regards to the issue. Simply some whine about the extremely small percentage of the Asian player population that are farmers - and who cares about the rest.

That's brilliant! Thank you for your help!!

As for IP blocking. I already stated it's not an IP blocking issue, it's account specific. Again, thank you so much for your help and understanding of the issue.

I have no doubt there are farmers from Asia but don't think it will create a lot of farmers if SOE lets Chinese players play EQII since the Chinese servers have already been shut down due to too low population, which means EQII is not as attractive as someone thinks for Chinese "Farmers". I have to say it's frustrating that I am blocked by Error 41780 while if SOE doesn't like players from China, it's fine for me but why don't make it clear like FF11 does so a lot of ppl including me can stop their vain effects. Please, SOE, say it if we are not welcome.

Let's keep these typecast comments out of this forum please....

I do not know what is causing this issue for the subscribers out there, but I hope that the solution can be found soon. Keep with it though!

I can comfirm this is not VPN or firewall issue. It's SOE's server blocking new account from Chinese IP.
