We'd *never* get to go if we waited. The odds of Fan Faire ending up in Alaska are about as good as the odds of my kids not fighting over a toy on any given day.

Start planning now for next year. Here's what we do: We got an air miles credit card with a low limit. We use if for daily-to-day household expenses and a few bills. We treat it like cash - if you pay it in full every month you'll never pay interest.

At the same time we get air miles from shopping at a particular grocery store and for paying our electric bill.

Right now we have enough to get us to Vegas, which is the major expense for us. We're still paying for room and food and et ceteras, but we've saved $1600-1800 with the air miles plan.

I'd rather fly somewhere than drive in to New York or Philly.. /shudders

No, Boston. Those people are insane on the road. I remember the first time I went there and rented a car, and got "welcome to Boston, where the use of a turn signal is a sign of weakness". It was also mentioned that right-of-way was largely determined how old your car was.

We were all excited to go this year. The last 4 years we were holed up in the South Pacific on a little U.S. Protectorate known as Guam, unable to attend because of the $1500 each round trip airfare.

So we made sure we saved our air miles and some extra mula just so we could go and give the RP community two more reps... with cool designer guild themed Tee-shirts...

But then we realized that the hubby *just* got settled into his new Duty Station here at Great Lakes and they will no way in hell grant him the leave for the long weekend in Vegas.

Please, please bring it to the Chic-a-go area in the next couple of years, so we can at least attend after his day is done and drive down from Wisconsin and not have to charge leave for it.

I want to be an official SOE Geek... but I can't until I can attend one of the Fan Faires.
