View Full Version : Old chat channels - can't leave or join

So way back when, there used to be system default chat channels like "Qeynos_Berserker" and "Freeport_Crafting". Then they were changed to "Good_" and "Evil_" prefixes. Then the separate chat channels were combined, so "Good_Crafting" and "Evil_Crafting" became just "Crafting".

So here's the problem. I still have the old channels in my UI. If I go to Chat Options for one of my chat windows, the old channels (like "Good_Crafting") appear in the "Custom Channels" list on the right. They are all unchecked for all of my chat windows. If I try to check one, it says: "Unable to enter 'Good_Crafting': You do not have the required privileges." They are also taking up chat channel numbers, although they do not appear on the /channellist. If I type /3, it gets expanded to [3.Good_Crafting], but I can't speak in the channel ("You are not in the channel.") I also can't /setchannelnumber to a number occupied by one of these "ghost" channels.

/leavechannel doesn't work, and I'm extremely reluctant to delete the .ini file because of the customizations I'll lose.

Solutions?

Powers &8^]

/leaveall removes you from all channels and then you can rejoin the ones you want.

Also I think if you dig around eq2ui theres a program that manages your channels for you.

Yeah, if /leaveall doesn't work, the program you are looking for is called EQ2 Chat Control. Although the name is English the program is all in French, so it's a bit difficult to navigate. However, it does the job very well. I just used a few months ago to leave some channels that I couldn't get out of IG.

Please try to remove all of the UI files in your EQ2 directory. They will over right next time you log into the launcher. Very brief download.

You may want to delete the following files and folders:cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.iniTo do this, please follow these directions:1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in: C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them. 5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

Since the last game update the user config files are now in xml format so it should be possible to remove these manually. Look for an eq.uisettings.xml file for your server and character name. In here there's a section towards the end that looks like:

ChatChannels joined="true" version="2"

..... Channel index="3" name="Good_Crafting" Channel index="4" name="Good_Warden" Channel index="5" name="Level_1-9" Channel index="6" name="Level_10-19"

..... etc.,

(surrounded by xml tags that I just had to edit out since the forums don't like quoting them *sigh*)

Delete the lines for the ones you no longer want. And yes, I just removed Good_Crafting and Good_Warden from mine

I saw it in there but for some reason I glossed over it after viewing it once.

Powers &8^]

This should be made into a sticky for people. The only thing i'll add is once you've done this you can use /channelist to see what channels your in and the number they are and also use /setchannelnumber x y. For eample in the quoted area after deleting the Channel index="3" name="Good_Crafting" line and logging back in you could make 1-9 channel 3 by typing /setchannelnumber 5 3.

And if you want to see who is in a channel using the channel of the number say 5 from above for 1-9 type /WC 1

Hope those extra bits help out too. Tkia thanks so so much.
