I know most people just ignore their gear until later levels, since you go through them so fast, but me and some others are taking our time through the game, so it's become more important.

Alot of people recommend buying the MC gear, but either I'm searching wrong on the broker, or on my server there's only a few people making it, and those that are only make 1 or 2 parts of the set, and it's all going for ridiculous amounts of money (like 20-50gp per piece of level 12 or 22 armor). Due to the level locking and good use of the broker, I have more money than is probably normal for characters of this level, but even still, that'd drain me fast (and I'd still be missing several pieces).

I started my guy in TD, and the stats on the quested gear from TD are awesome. In doing all the 1-20 content in all the other zones I've only ended up replacing a few things - like maybe a piece of two or jewelry, and 1 or 2 pieces of armor.

But after reading some other posts, I think I finally figured out why mobs are beating the living crap out of me - I didn't realize the mitigation on a piece of armor was directly tied to the level of the armor. So it looks like (since I'll probably mostly solo all the way to 80, and will be taking hits) I need to start tossing out some of the low level TD gear for other gear I'm finding. That way I'll get more appropriate-leveled items and more mitigation, at the cost of stats.

Being DPS-oriented (not a tanking fan, although that may change later in the game if groups or my guild need it), I've been focusing on STR, with secondary conerns to STA/HP. I'd like to have more AGI, but I've mostly been ignoring it, and it shows. I'm going to probably loose a good bit of my STR switching to higher mitigation armor as well.

So for now, unless MC gear starts showing up reasonably priced, I'm probably going to replace my gear with the armor quest stuff, even though some of my current gear has better stats (sandals and shoulders, for instance).

But for beyond that, for just evaluating gear I find on mobs or from quests, do any other people have suggestions for comparing two pieces of gear, with DPS in mind? Back in the EQ1 days I had a point system to help weigh two pieces of gear that made it simple. And I figure at 80 it'll be easier too (especially if I'm not tanking and can focus purely on DPS-related stats). But anyone have any suggestions for on the trip to 80? Weighing str, sta/hp versus mitigation and item level.

(Btw, yes I realize I sure did type a lot of words for a rather simple question)
