Keep fame decay while in the game. This way you're encouraged to actually PvP, and fight while logged in. Fame decay should be severe, like losing one fame hit for every hour your character is logged in. (I know some will sit on alts, waiting for someone in their fame range, but let them play a boring, stupid game of wait.)

ADD IN Fame loss only if you die to someone one rank lower than you.

ADD IN Armor damage if you die in PvP combat, at least 10%, but preferrably 20%.

ADD IN Two way recent list, but the loser only has a five minute timer.

ADD IN Thirty second revive timer upon PvP death, so solo's can not immediatly zerg.

ADD IN No fame loss, or gain, with no writ update if you're marked heroic, and kill a solo.

So the old system in my eyes was care bear. If a Hunter helps to score a kill on an Overseer, that Overseer should lose fame.

Did you enjoy the risk of YOU losing fame, or did you like the chance to ruin someone elses fun? I've got at least 8 years of PvP experience between EQ1 - Rallos Zek / Sullon Zek, Dark Age of Camelot, a PvP enabled Neverwinter Nights server (where you lost gear on death), and finally EQ2.

I have to say, I've never seen a game that has turned in such a huge gank fest that EQ2 has become. I do not understand the maturity level of EQ2 right now, or the need to try and ruin others fun, like I've seen.

I've got Dreadnaughts and Generals engaging me now, when they would run before.

But, I kind of agree there needs to be some kind of risk, but risk that isn't going to bring back the cowardly play we had with the old system.

I just can't think of a sufficient risk that will not bring back the run, run, run, evac, evac, hide in immunity cowardly play we experienced with the old system.

Then he would come back with two other people and gank me. No skill involved, no risk, just an easy fight because I chose to play a non-evacing, non-tracking class.

The good thing with the new system, that same person has tried to engage me, and fight me. He lost, but isn't that just going to make him better?
