140 hours to go.

<p>My friend's PC crashed and he had to reinstall everything.  He has been downloading EQ2 for two days now.  Last night he restarted it before going to bed:  4 hours to go.</p><p>I don't know what time he restarted it this morning, if he even did.  Perhaps he had to go out right away.  At any rate, launchpad now estimates 140 hours to finish downloading. </p><p>What is going on here?  Are there any FAQs about what the user should do when having to reinstall the whole game?  Are there settings in one's ISP that need to be changed?  Are there game settings?  Are there Windows XP settings. </p><p>Does this happen to new customers?  I bought the boxed game when TSO came out and had the same problem.  It took me two days to get a working game up and going.  Of course, I was thinking there must be something wrong with my computer.  Couldn't be SOE, could it?  And something is wrong with my friend's computer?  And maybe your computer too? </p><p>Can someone point to a solution to this problem, besides having to baby sit the download, restarting it every hour - if that even works.</p><p>BTW, my friend is on a high speed cable/dsl connection running XP with 4 gig ram.</p>

<p>The only thing I can tell you from my experience and from what I have read on the forums in the past is that there is a ton of "looping" going on when downloading the game.   The best thing to do is to continuously exit out of the download and restart it as soon as you start seeing the timer climbing up exponentially or if you see the time left looping back and forth.</p>

<p>Please have your friend call in. Connection issues of this type can be firewall, antvirus, router... you name it. With his system specs and a few tries we can easily isolate the issue. We like to get very specific system info (dxdiag and msinfo) so please have him either write a petition, go to char or call us. You can reach us  Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm PST, except holidays, at 1-858-537-0898. We handle this type of issue every day.</p><p> Now to give the demi-answers that I can with the info that I have....</p><p> Please make certain that EQ2 is in the firewall's exception list. eq2.exe and everquest2.exe must be in the allow list.</p><p>I would rather that all firewalls be UNINSTALLED but people seem to like to be protected...</p><p>You could also unplug the router from its power source for a full minute then allow it to boot up completely.</p><p>I dont even want to get into port forwarding here.</p><p>You can see how brief these answers are. Please have your friend call or contact us.</p></blockquote><p>Thank you.  I just emailed your reply to him.  He will call you in the morning.  As of 9:35 PM eastern time, he had again restarted the download and was getting varied results with the timer - 2 hours, 1 hour, 2 hours....</p><p>The game files in Program FilesSony are pretty big now. bigger than they are on my system.  Yet his download is continuing. </p>
