the game uses non-standard ports. He needs to configure his fiewall to allow access to the eq2 applications and launcher to the internet.

Ok he did this and no dice:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch

He also went into his Firewall and mae sure to allow eq. No dice

Ok, so my friend is going on 5 days into his Free Trail and he is no closer to even being able to play the game because a company as huge and "technologically advanced" as Sony can't make it work with Vista.

Well at least he can launch and play "World of Warcraft". I guess he will stick with that. He was eager to try this one but because of only one canned response to his problem he is left without any further ooptions but to uninstall EQ.

Good job Sony.

Please have your friend contact us. I love the forums but the technical stuff gets a pretty light treatment here. We can find the issue but we will need a call or a petition.

I cannot get EQ2 to work with my new cpu that happens to have vista. I already tried to do the "run as administrator" and the disabling of the UAC. I also disabled my firewall. No dice.

I then thought it was a launcher issue, so I downloaded the launcher (per the error message I kept getting) from the website and ended up getting the same error as the subject line on this thread "not connected to network".

Seriously, being that vista seems to be the going standard on the market, why can every mmo on the market run fine and eq2 cannot?

Being that I am having the same issue, I assume I will have to call the tech support number as well....

Well, here is our contact info..

However, the only issue the game has specifically with Vista is the "Run as Admin" stuff, and that is a Windows issue. It doesn't want programs to be able to reach out to the internet and modify themselves, so it blocks it by default.

"Not connected to Network" or similar is going to be a firewall issue (Norton, McAffee, etc.) 99% of the time. If you know your way around there, you can try and get the launcher and the game permitted, but the fastest way to test it out is to uninstall the security suite altogether. You can put it right back either way, but at least you'll know if that is the cause.

If you have your buddy contact us, we can certainly extend his trial time until we get this figured out.
