Hello! New person here.....only been playing about a month and have run through a couple of characters already

I've got a half-elf mystic that I really like but I'm having a heck of a time keeping her alive. Only a level 14ish, and only have a few achievement points so far and put them into the strength, agility and stamina. I know mystics aren't considered massive fighters, but gees, it seems I can't kill anything my level without getting assistance from a friend.

What are the strong points of this class (is mystic a class?)... ok, yes, I know I have TONS of information out there available, and I have read a lot of it, but sometimes you can only process so much before the acronyms start making you fuzzy....

Any suggestions?

Cheers and thanx!

Welcome! Not trying to play forum police here, just a friendly hint to a new person: These boards have a Mystic forum. Just scroll down a bit and open the link "Class Discussion". You might get better answers there. If you want more AA, you might consider to lock your level (turn quest and combat xp off) and do some more quests from the other starter areas.

I actually don't remember having trouble with my mystic at lower lvls, other than things don't die quick, she almost never died herself. Make sure your puppy is helping you, they don't do much dmg but every little bit helps! And once you get some more AA's things will get easier, just remember your a support class, things will never die quick if your solo'ing. So it's not a bad idea if you have a buddy along to help things die faster!

I would also suggest 2 sets of gear, one with wis on it, and then one with stam, str and int for solo'ing (the wisdom set being for grouping where you will be healing) And if your still not feeling it, it might be time to try yet another class, so many great classes to pick from! (I have more than one 'main' myself) Good luck!

(1) Good gear. Harvest your hiney off, and have mastercrafted armor made. You want the brigandine, it's the kind that has extra wisdom. Rare harvested materials will be used to make you really good gear. Better armor helps you a LOT.

(2) Group ward, single target ward, then debuff to pull the mob. If you have time, toss another debuff or two before it gets to you. Kill it! But be sure wards are up FIRST then debuff as much as you can.

(3) Don't worry about two sets of gear while you are young. Get good, solid gear. As I said earlier, hervest everything - you will be surprised at how much better you do if you have mastercrafted armor and jewelry. Also, when you get the rare gemstones, have a sage turn those into Adept 3 versions of your spells. Start with the spells you use the most!

(4) Once you have the AA points to use, definitely invest them in getting the Combat Arts versions of your attacks.

One thing I found invaluable when soloing on a healer is to take full advantage of heroic opportunities.

You have an ability to start the heroic opportunity (Cant recall the name of it atm, but it's on your hotbar). Click that after you pull, the abilities that will continue the chain will start flashing in your hotbar, after the 2nd one connects, you will get a nice damaging nuke on the mob you are fighting.

It'll take a few fights to get used to it most likely, but I highly recommend learning how to and taking full advantage of it.

To echo the above, when soloing my mystic at early levels I used heroic opportunities every time they were up. much much faster killing.

Also upgrade all the most important spells i.e. your primary ward and your biggest hit.

I'd honestly start to invest in the combat art part of your AA's, definately, and move from there. If you want to start healing more though and be more support to your group, you will probably have to respec at higher levels, but you can do that. The other AA's are invaluable for healing and group support.

As you get your character down the levelling chain also, you can invest in an AA Mirror, which will let you safe a soloing spec with all those wonderful combat art abilities, and then a grouping spec for healing!

Here is a cut and paste from a post a few weeks ago, if you are nuking you are not playing your mystic to its greatest potential (this is from a leveling-up point of view) get the Combat Arts with the first few AAs you get and get a slow 2h (most Mastercrafted wood weapons are rather cheap) and you will have NO problems soloing, even blue ^^^ nameds in most cases when you get down how to debuff and manage your power.

I am currently 55 with 73 AAs and I just started leveling this Mystic about 10 days ago to play with a returning friend. I went for the Combat Arts and the end ability there Weapon Mastery right away with my first 21 AA points. I did 3 points in all the CAs including the Enhance bear to open up all 4 CAs..I then filled the Chilling Strike CA (it refreshs the fastest so I wanted it max power) to 5 points as well as the AE attack(highest damage CA), a 4th point to Glacial Strike and got the final ability opend and I spent a point there (eventually I will max all the CAs)

Then I got the dog and started down the AGI line to its end ability, I did 4-4-8-6 to open up Tribal Rage. Then I started to open the Enhance SoW but only until I had 50AAs.. after that I started on the TSO lines to spend 10 in general so right at 60 AA I can get Litany of Combat. (I took 5 in run and 5 in max life in General)

After I got Litany of Combat to 5 points for the melee buff I went back to max out SoW and now I am working my way down the STR line. I dont think I will get the AE blocker yet, I think I would rather have the endline Wisdom ability to cast faster, but I am going for 4-4-4-8 in STR and I think with that I can fill out WIS for my 70 points in the Shaman Tree.

This is my plan for a leveling/solo spec that focuses on AA gain, my biggest issue as an Ogre Mystic so far is power consumption, and cast speed.. I tend to get out of power fast but things should get better once I get into Kunark gear. But until then I have 103% melee crit, 60% double attack, 51% haste (FBSS) when my Rage procs.. which is pretty much all the time

OH, as for spell upgrades all that you really need while leveling up are you Single Ward, Group Ward and then the Single and Group heal spells upgraded at adept3 or master. As a melee healer you dont need to upgrade any nuke/dot because you are using the converted Combat Arts insead.

I liked to get Adept3+ (Mystic masters up thru low 50s were dirt cheap on my server 15-50g) on the debuffs too, which help alot.. but at lower levels its really not used - I only debuff ^^ or higher mobs since others die to 1-2 rounds of melee attacks.
