I have recently upgraded my graphics card from an NVIDIA GE-force 8300 to a 9600GT, and have been having in-game issues ever since. At random times and locations, the entire system will crash. It will go to a black screen, the sound will stutter for a few seconds, and it will lock up from there. When this happens, the power light on the monitor will blink, as though the system were powered off, even though it is still running. The only thing I can do is a hard crash (cut power to the box). When I put the old card back in, it runs the same as it did before the upgrade.

I was originally told it was a power supply issue, so i have upgraded from a 420 to a 575. Unfortunatley, this did not solve the problem. I have also heard it might be a cooling issue, but I do not think that is the case. The card itself has a fan, and the case has three more. All of them are running fine. The only thing I can think of is that the card itself has gone bad. A friend of mine gave it to me when he upgraded his system, but he assures me that it was working fine when he removed it. I doubt that it is a hardware issue elswhere in the system, as everything else is brand new - I built the rig less than 2 months ago.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is there an ongoing problem with this card, or should I look deeper into the components?

Try cleaning up the drivers

1. uninstall the current driver, boot the system back into safe mode

2. run a driver cleaner sucha s one from guru3d t malke sure all old pieces of drivers are gone

3. install the latest recommended driver for the card

At the same time look at the date on the sound card driver, make sure it is current as it can be

If this does not worj you need to check the stickied post and supply all the parts of of the dxdiag that is requested
