I'd like an opinion on the following if I may:

I have a monk who's background consists of coming from a monastery that teaches the lore of dragons. From what I've read on the lore of the dragons on the sky islands, there's too much controversy between all the dragons for me to really spiritually connect the background of the monastery. Would it be distasteful to bring in lore of dragons from the East Asian culture into an environment where, even though dragons already exist, it brings a lore into play that steers off the path of what's already in-game?

The closest thing EQ2 gets to an asian dragon is the Turtle Dragon Chel'Drak, and we don't know any background info behind him other than the fact that he was entrusted to guard part of Zebuxoruk's memories. After defeating him, Zebuxoruk regains all his memories and tells you that even though Zeb entrusted Chel'Drak with his memories, he had to die in order to gain them back anyway, so basicly Chel'Drak is sacrificed for nothing.

Just about all dragons, regardless of thier own problems, look down on everyone else on Norrath, because the Dragons are the First Brood, and all life that came after them are inferior in every sense. I don't think your monestary would be shown much respect from them in general. That isn't to say that you can't befriend a dragon, gain it's trust, or make deals with them though. Nagafen tolerates us lesser mortals just enough to strike a deal with us if we humbly request his assistance or knowledge.

At any rate, this game is pretty much devoid of asian dragon designs aside from Chel'Drak.

That's why I presented the question of whether or not it would be distasteful to fabricate dragons that don't exist in EQ2, but exist in the asian cultures to break away from the lore of the EQ2 dragons.

If this was EQlive and not EQ2, you could easily tie your character's lore in with the Dragons of Norrath expansion that came out after EQ2 was released (and thus is not canon to our storyline.)

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...html?zstrat=275

This Stillmoon Temple zone is completely designed around Asian culture, and I know I saw a few Asian dragon designs from the pictures there.

But then again, if this were EQlive, your monk would either be a Human of Qeynos and the Silent Fist clan, a Quellious worshipping Human monk of the Ashen Order in Freeport, or an Iksar of the Swifttail Clan on Kunark. I don't think you'd have much room for your monestary unless you put it in as backstory from before you started your training as a monk, and the Iksar are chosen from birth what they will become.

Here's the issue I see with following Chel'Drak. While I agree Fallen Dynasty has a butt load of Asian related cultural lore to it from which to establish a monastery, having a monastery that worships the spirit of dragons follow the quest line of the expansion to eventually kill a creature we protect doesn't seem to fit very well with it. I'm not quite sure how to approach this without breaking complete story line canon, and I'm stuck on the idea of creating a monastery with a dragon related theme to it.

Yes, even your own character admits that having to kill Chel'Drak was a difficult decision to make, and then Zeb states that it had to be done, and that Chel'Drak, though gone in body, will forever be a part of Zeb for the rest of his existance, and honored as the guardian that he was.
