I just reopened my account with EQ2 about a week or so ago. Everything was running great for a few days and I was having a good time with the game again. About the 11th or 12th of march, I suddenly started having freezes in my video. I would be able to play for about 5 minutes before the video would lock up for about 10 seconds. When it started again, the screen would be glitched until I alt-tab out of game and back. the video would be fine for a minute or so before locking up again. ((Screenshot of video glitch shown below.))

I play games like Left 4 Dead, world of warcraft, lord of the rings online, tomb raider, and other graphically high demand games with no troubles.

List of everything I've tried:

1. first thing I did was download new video drivers. (Yes, I did uninstall the old ones)

2. re-installed directx.

3. turned all my game settings to bare minimum.

4. turned off all the high end video options in my Nvidia control panel.

after all these steps the game graphics still crash repeatedly. I'm a returning customer and for a few days the game was fun, but my paid time is quickly being eaten away and I cannot play the game.

Can you help me?

<img
Oh man, the Faes have infiltrated the Matrix!

It looks like one of the texture files is loading incorrectly. Let's make sure it isn't a corrupt files issue first. You may want to delete the following files and folders:

Cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

All of those files should be in the Everquest 2 directory

I'll try those things as soon as I get home from work. Just so you understand the screenshot, That was taken AFTER a screenfreeze. Before the freeze, that area looked just fine... in fact the area is gorgeous! Usually I'm going along fine until the screen freezes. When it unfreezes, the screen looks like this or with random textures scattered about. I can alt-tab out of game and when I come back the screen looks normal.

First freeze happenes after 5-10 minutes of play and after that, it freezes avery 2-5 minutes. Up until last saturday, this never happened at all.

Looks like the card is either overheating or you have some display memory going bad. First thin I would try is to take the side cover off the machine, carefully clean the inside out with a can of compressed air and verify that the all the fans are running.

I don't know if this has any impact on my problem, but as I said in my original post, after I reactivated my account and reinstalled the game, it ran fine for a few days... never crashed once. I seem to remember in the options menu of the launcher, choosing the option to download optional content and voice packs, and my video freeze problems started happening soon after that.

Is it possible this might be a cause? Should I uninstall and reinstall again, skipping the optional stuff? I sure hope not... took forever to patch the game!

It does really appear to be heat releated though. Besides good habit to clean the killer dust bunnies out of a case frequently.

Wingrider probably has it right in this case, that the card is overheating or a memory sector is going bad. Opening the case and checking that the vents are clear and the fans are spinning is a good next step.

well, problem is much better. I tore down my machine and dusted everything, took off my huge fancy and expensive heat sink and installed the simple one that came with my processor. I've been able to play for 2 to 3 hours before having a screen glitch that only lasts a second or two, so I think we can call this issue pretty well solved.

Thanks for your help.
