Are there any better boots beyond the two that you mentioned? No, not really. Your whole "can't be raid dropped" requirement is what's tripping you up.

Yet if you're willing to look at T1 gateway raiding, then the RoK Thuuga raid zone does have a scout boot piece that can drop. It provides +4 Melee Crit. (The name escapes me at the moment. Skittering something?) Yet this piece of gear focuses more on the idea that Melee Crit is more important than Double Attack, which is inherently going against the grain of your original choice in gear selection. So to be honest, these boots probably aren't something that you'd be wanting either.

Also to answer your other question about which item was better. I personally chose the Dauntless Boots. In the world of TSO, critical mitigation is something that I really want. Combined with the fact that I'm getting a DA proc off of my epic and the dauntless chest piece, I felt the switch to the dauntless boots was more than worth it.

No matter how much we may focus on pure DPS, we WILL rip aggro instantly if we start using our mitigation debuffs in a group with a lesser geared / mastered tank. So when this will occassionally happen, we need to be able to survive the few potential seconds on a named mob's abuse as we're using our various threat position deaggros. A dead brigand is a worthless brigand. Debuffs and DPS aren't worth anything if you're dead.

Thanks for the response. I kind of figured that those were the best non-raid boots, but had to check.

The reason why I have the "non-raid" requirement is that I am guilded with a group of 5 friends plus me, and that's it. We are a really solid group and nearing the end of single group content and gear. EQ2 is old enough that guilds are pretty well established and it's hard for a new guild to grow, so we are limited to single group content. We are hoping to grow to 2 groups and then hit the new x2 zone in GU51, but it's going slow. We play on Unrest btw.

Regarding not being able to debuff/dps if you're dead, I'm with you there. I've got the Int AA line to the end, so that has FD plus some hate reducers in the line. I always run with Ignorant Bliss, and I've got 2 arts that drop me a slot on the hate list - 1 is a regular brigand CA and the other is a TSO end line AA, but the names escape me. On named encounters, I get the debuffs on asap and keep them on, and then do as much damage as possible.

So, as far as character progression goes, right now I'm trying to squeeze out as much damage as I can. Unfortuately, it looks like the best thing that I can do to up my damage is to get the mythical weapon - which I will have to buy updates for. Sucks, I know. Other than that there are still some rare fabled drops from the TSO zones that would be upgrades, but that's about it.

The choice isn't as simple as Dauntless vs Trooper though - it depends what other Tier 2 Dauntless gear you use. If you use three pieces, you get a nice damage/heal proc. If you swap in the Trooper boots and have only two pieces, losing the proc will lose you dps.

There are some nice Tier 1 RoK and TSO raid items - you may be able to get into pickups for that or, perhaps, for a raid alliance between 2 or 3 guilds to do that. There's nice scout head/wrist/etc items in PR, nice boots in Thuuga, and certainly some good stuff in TSO Tombs zone off the early 'easy' nameds, and off the first named in Palace.

The other thing you can try as a single group or maybe a group and a bit is killing trash in certain raid zones, for the chance of some nice drops. You don't *have* to kill nameds to get loot in every raid zone. SoH, Tomb, Palace, YIS all have some very nice trash drops.

My Dauntless pieces are chest, hands, and legs. I've got wasted wilderness for the shoulders.

Yeah, we've thought about a raiding alliance or something. I looked into it briefly on Unrest and it seems to be mostly an "alliance" where 1 or 2 semi-raiding guilds are looking for others to fill in empty raid slots. I'll need to look again and see if there is anything a little better.

Killing raid trash is an interesting thought. They are still designed for 4 groups though, right? Guess a single group might be able kill a trash mob or two. We'll have to try and see.

Tier 1 RoK raid zones can also be done with pick up raids...if you're able to gather infos on the nameds you're gonna fight then shouldn't have too much trouble to form a good setup raid and clear those zones.

Teaen Arcarius wrote:

My Dauntless pieces are chest, hands, and legs. I've got wasted wilderness for the shoulders.

I do the same, i.e. I also think that 8% more poison base damage and +15CA outweighs the loss of mit and 1%DA. I'm surprised more people don't do this. If you can boost INT significantly, the advantage grows.

Killing raid trash is an interesting thought. If you're going to do this though certain classes help a lot, certainly a dirge (always the case for any tougher content) and extra regen. The *named* mobs are designed for x4 yes, but the trash is much weaker.

To get a feel for it, try Shard of Hate (SoH). This has the easiest trash, and still some very nice drops. The rate of drops is very variable - randomness ftw! Sometimes we've seen 12+ chests from one instance, other times only 1 or two. You can browse the drops at the www.xanadu-community.com site under the EQ2 section, RoK Tier 4 zones. This will give you a feel for how easy or not it is for you, whether you need maybe 3 or 4 people in a second group too. It'll also start you thinking about raid setups, raidwide buffs etc, even just with 2 groups.

If you find SoH doable, then there's also trash drops in ToMC (commonlands caverns entrance) - kill the sentry guard then you get 4 or 5 more mobs before the first named which you can pet/hammer pull from the entrance. Next step up is Palace trash (same zonein as Palace of Ferzhul in Moors), where the mobs have more HP. If you manage that, then try Ykesha's Sanctum (zonein in Guk area of Moors) but the mobs hit harder there and will be orange con.

Between those 4 zones you have the possibility of some nice drops, you may get lucky, you may not, but with timers resettable every 2-5 days or so, you can keep trying if you want to

The other thing you can do ofc is to start framing trash slowly yourself, then offer in 70-79 or L80 chat for anyone else to join you in SoH trash farming - you may get some takers, which would speed things up (at the cost of loot maybe going outside your guild/circle fo friends)... but maybe those takers might join your guild...

ANyway, whatever you do, good luck

Thanks for the tips. We'll definately try out Shard of Hate.

Btw, is this the drop list off of Shard of Hate trash? http://eq2.xanadu-community.com/ite...e=browse&id=648

I've used LootDb before, but it seems like it's down right now. Never used xanadu before.

Yes, that's the loot off of the trash. We don't get a whole lot of drops from trash when we do SoH but some of the loot is decent. If we get 2 in a run I consider us lucky. If you find the trash mobs to be somewhat easy you could also consider trying the 2 easiest named guys in there, Dreadlord "I will never drop gloves or a hat for Uguv" D'Somni as well as Demetrius Crane.
