I was on all day yesterday until the afternoon, then this problem showed up. I get to character select fine, pick a character and the loading screen to bring me into the game world shows up. Then, during "Creating Zone" or "Loading Zone Resources," I crash straight to the desktop with no error message or anything. This happens regardless of which character I choose. Here's a summary of my system:

Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz

NVidia 7600GT

3GB DDR2 RAM

Windows XP Professional

I didn't change anything or download anything new at the time this first happened. I looked around the forums a little and couldn't find anyone with my EXACT problem, but here's what I've tried:

*Deleted all character and server .ini files, eq2_default and eq2_recent.ini, everquest2.exe, and the cache folder.

*Completely redownloaded the game.

*Tested my RAM both with a diagnostic program and by swapping out the sticks. The problem happens regardless of which of my RAM sticks is in and regardless of the slot it's in.

*System restored to a few days ago when everything was working fine.

What else can I possibly try? I don't understand what could be wrong. This is really confusing and frustrating.

This exact same thing is happening to me. Game worked fine yesterday but now I can't get past Loading Zone Resource. Tried all of my characters too.

Kind of relieved someone else is having this problem, I was fearing it could be some horrible hardware issue with my computer. Hopefully we can get a SoE poster to shed some light on this.

I am having the same problem. It crashes after character select usually around the loading cache area. I deleted my cache, ini files, etc. Nothing. I can still run Warhammer and a few other MMOs, which is interesting.

Then I thought it was something outside the game, so...

In addition to running diagnostics on the RAM sticks, I tried two different video cards. I deleted my drivers, reloaded. I have not downloaded a thing, and the only thing that happened in between last night when it was working and today is a shut down and start up.

I played EQ in one form or fashion since 1999. I just now came back to playing after a few months of trying other MMOs. Really bad form to make a return and have this sort of absurdity happening.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I also checked the firewalls on my cpu and my router. I then disconnected my router and went internet direct. Still nothing.

As far as I can tell, there were no stealth patches or eq client downloads that would mess things up.

Totally lost.

Still happening for you guys? Still happening here after the hotfix today (not that I expected the hotfix to be related at all). Hoping to get some SoE response now that it's business hours.

As a first step, let's make sure that a background application isn't interfering with the game. To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

Also, if you're running Xfire then make sure it is completely disabled since that program is causing a similar crash issue for some people.

After the hot fix, the game started working for a few days. It is back to disconnecting and dropping to desktop when the entities are loading. Sometimes it will tell me that its disconnecting due to username/password error. Thats awesome, being that I would never have gotten to the load screen without entering the information correctly.

This is really frustrating. I can play any other MMO except EQ2. Why is there ALWAYS issues with one thing or another, be it this or the epic issues with Vista.

I run XP at this time, but every computer on the market is pushing vista, and even if I buy a new cpu, I am not guaranteed to have an issue free gaming experience. I don't understand how the small and relatively unknown Sony company (sarcasm) and all its great minds cannot figure out how to get its games to work with the current market standard operating systems.

EQ2 is a far superior game to Warhammer, Warcraft, Conan and every other MMO I have played recently, but nobody will ever know it cause nobody wants to deal with the Evercrash issues.

Still loading up to cache part, then sometimes will go direct to desktop, other times will give a username and password error.

Can a guy get some help here?

I am really not understanding why, when I have not made any changes to my computer, the game suddenly stops working. And this has happened twice in this week. Only difference is, last time is suddenly started working again. Does not seem to be the case this time.

Of course, nobody is replying anyway on how to fix it, so it hardly matters.

Ok, I finally got two messages on latest crash.

A small window came up saying Critical Error: Next Point or Block is Corrupted 09D406E0

I hit Ok then it said:

This application has requested the run time to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

Then I had the option to send an error report, and I have no idea how to copy and paste that from the error message to here.
