So, I've been gone from the game for awhile now (left right before Kunark was to come out). Since then I built a new PC and have been going about my merry way since. But I figured now was the time to give ole EQ2 a whirl again.

Logged into the main site.

Input my info.

Started download.

*Says about 3 hours worth of downloading to do* "No problem, it's got a lot to get on the machine again. No biggie." I think to myself. Since I wasn't getting the latest xpacs, just what I already had (which was everything up to that xpac that was released), I figured I'd go and re-download the latest updated mods I used to use (do so) and go about my way.

Finish watching TV right as the download is "supposed" to finish up.

Downloader does a few things. Then starts to download even more things. Now it boosts it up to about 9 more hours worth of downloads to do.

While this time fluxuates wildly during th entire process, it's clear that it won't take 9 hours to get it all (as I'm on cable internet), it's still going to take a VERY long time.

I've downloaded games through Steam that were in the 12-15 gig range that took far, far less time than this. So what gives?

Just an impatient rat that wants back on the treadmill again.

Update Time:

After 3 hours of the initial download, about 3-4 hours later, the second download happened. Now I'm looking at another 3-4 hour download. Is this normal?

1) the old patcher is a dinosaur, I don't even think it can do multi-treaded downloads, that means that the fastest it can go is only as fast as the slowest node between you and SoE, it does not matter how fast your Connection is.

2) the old patcher gets stuck really easily, if you are not watching it, it WILL get stuck and need to be restarted.

3) The estimator in the old launch pad does not know what it is talking about ignore it, unless it goes up non-stop, then close and restart it.

4) they are working on a new Patcher that is FAR faster and does not get stuck, but as it is in beta some people have issues using it.

5) The entire EQ2 folder is between 10-11GB, so if you are near that number you are almost done.

6) The Beta launchpad can be downloaded here.

Tried the Beta patcher. Wouldn't work off of what I've already downloaded and watched to start over. Ugh. Man, this is so slow.

I've never had any issues with the patcher, it's never even stopped downloading on me. Maybe some people have worse luck?

But yea, downloading the WHOLE game is going to take more than 3 hours...

If it is is installing stuff in a folder other then your EQ2 folder something is wrong. Also make sure the reagons are the same, as well as there are minor differances between the EU reagon and the US reagon as far as the client goes.

Yes as of now, i have 4 gigs of test server files.

Do you have the new Launchpad? if so I believe you have to go into your options and turn off automatic downloads for EQ2 Test, and also make sure you didn't, or it didn't change your version to Test Sever, it looks nearly identical exsept for the fact that it says Test Sever in fairly small font directly under the II in the EQ2 logo... they really should make that more obious.

If your using the old patcher make sure your short cut is pointed to the EQ2.exe file in your EQ2 folder and not your EQ2Test Server folder. Cause the file even though will only look in the folder it is in for your EQ2 files and if it does not see them will start downloading the EQ2 files into that location. Even if it is on the desktop... so be sure to shortcut and not copy... yes I have done that. Also the Test patcher is called TestEQ2.exe though like I said befor if the EQ2.exe file is in that folder then it will download into that folder.

Well, I decided to abuse myself. I'm putting EQ2 on the laptop so I can do whatever at work. Of course, I'm working on Day Two for the downloads, yeah the hotel I work at isn't too nice for download speeds, but it's not too horrible, but you couple the patcher & this hotel = Day Two & Counting!

BTW, is there any chat box commands to show framerates? I use the FetishUI mod and I think it's stopping me from displaying it by hitting the F11 key....unless it's there and I can't see it?
