I have been looking to tweak my computer back to health so that I could play EQ2 on higher settings. And while looking for tweaks to get better CPU performance I found this.

To AMD

its the 5th download option

AMDwrote:

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer Version 1.1.4 - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

Though its been out a while I am not sure if I should use it for my AMD Athlon 4800+. So I came here, as it would seem the best place to ask.

What do you guys think?

Greetings,

While it might improve performance, I never suggest it as a way to boost framerate. That said, I have suggested it for several people. Sometimes AMD dual core machines will suddenly start processing the game faster or slower than it should. That will manifest in game by displaying your character as moving very fast or very slow. In that specific case I recommend using the dual core optomizer since it will lock the processor to RDTSC.

It might work as a performance booster as well, but I have never used it for that purpose.
