just returned to the game after a break that began before the TSO expansion

haven't upgraded to TSO yet

now that i'm back, i've resumed something i was working on just prior to taking a break, am a master armorer and was increasing my Kunark faction so i could buy a bunch of expensive (6p) armor recipes that require 40K faction

but as i listen to chat while i harvest and do the faction writs, it sounds like now with TSO the game revolves around shards and new armor/equipment made from shards...does that mean the recipes i'm working towards are now essentially useless, replaced by better shard armor recipes?

You'll have to compare stats/effects. In general the TSO shard armor's about the best in game right now short of fabled from raiding. Some of the stuff off the ROK vendors may be better for raiding, though.

You cannot wear the void shard armor until level 80. I sell a decent amount of the emblazoned plate still, myself. People levelling alts will go from incarnadine plate to emblazoned and thence to shard armor.

What really burns my bottom is that any TS can make the void items. It feels wrong to me that this high end, crafted armor can be made by a provisioner. But since the dadgum pieces are 'no trade', I guess we need enough people to be able to make it on demand. ...the whole system is just downright screwy.

But to answer the original question, I view it as more 'niche' than unimportant. I certainly wouldn't spend a lot of time on it though. Get your void books and make some jewelry for folks, lol.

Shard armor, shard jewels and shard misc (charms, symbols etc.) and TSO loot is superior to all previous available.

The only real good recipes are the Fra Seas recipes for the droped raws like void metal, bloodwood and some others. Those crafted items are sometimes the best outside raids. Only they are commission only and no-trade. You cant craft those for your alts.

My main is a jeweler. Jewelers are screwed twice. The two Fra Seas recipes we get are almost the weakest of all. While other professions are able to craft very good girdles and other jewels.

The worst is i cant craft for my alts. I wouldnt mind it, but my server has a weak crafter community.
