View Full Version : Defilers and PvP Group Healing

There aren't any posts dealing with defilers and PvP group healing, but I feel that a post should be made so that pvp defilers can make suggestions. Currently pretty much any healer class is a better choice in a pvp group than we are. I don't know many defilers who play on a pvp server for anything other than pve.

One thing that has recently come to my attention is regenerating damage type-specific group wards (mystics get noxious, templars get arcane, wardens get elemental). In basically every large pvp fight I've come across, I notice that the regenning group ward comes in at least 2nd if not 1st place on the heal parse at often ~500 HPS. Furies, Inquisitors, and Defilers get the shaft with this. I doubt we'll ever see a change

We are also highly interruptable. It's almost impossible to get a group ward off at times (even with loads of casting speed enhancers). Mystics of course have the same problem, though their heal stance's 15% to casting speed helps out. I can't imagine how great it would be to chain cast with something like steadfast.

There are plenty of other things that could help us out a bit but we won't see any help unless people bring it to attention.

I agree with most of the points raised above, but I still enjoy group PvP on my Defiler. I almost always am in a group with a tank and another healer usually an inquisitor which is a nice combo with their Myth clicky. This makes life a lot easier because, for the reasons stated above, it is difficult to solo heal a group as a defiler. If your tank does his job you can get a ton of healing done and will often top the parse. The TSO AA's into our group heal which reduce the casting time by a third and increase the healed amount are very helpful. My main complaint, which I made in the PvP forum, was that the Defiler PvP gear sucks. Another unfortunate issue is that our Myth does not provide any OP PvP application like the Warden (hey, they nvr run out of power) and Inquisitor. It would be nice if the PVP gear helped out with some of the problems above.

I haven't looked at the breakdown of Nagafen lately, but, in general, there are just a lot fewer defilers to begin with (as opposed to the ubiquitous druids), but some of us are out there doing PvP, not just raiding.

Sure we do fine when we have another healer cushioning things, but I don't want to depend on having another healer in group to do any good. I can't just avoid groups unless I know there's another healer going, and I can't make excuses to my group when I do less well than Templars (for example) they know. Healers are healers to most players in that regardless of what priest class you are, they figure you should be able to do just as well as any..they don't realize what sort of disadvantages shamans are faced with. There are some fights where we are very capable, but when the group is against a lot of crowd control and your tank is unable to be on the taunts 24/7, someone's probably going to jump on you..and when they do, you generally can't get a major heal/ward off before being interrupted, and at the same time 3 other people are dying. There are several classes whose AOEs interrupt constantly, as well. I'm an exile, so perhaps faction Shamans with fear rings and detarget bucklers fare a little better, I don't know. Doesn't mean there's a class balance. I've seen templars heal for around 3,000 HPS in 8-minute-long group vs group fights..500 of it from Ethereal Mist Gauntlets, another 500 from Shield of Faith, 300 from Rune Etched Helm (to be fair, we can wear it too but I still disagree with the fact that clerics can) and the rest from practically being able to chain cast . I don't know any similarly geared defilers who can compete with 3k HPS in PvP on a decently long fight.

I'm not saying defilers are awful and completely disadvantaged, and that skill doesn't play a role when it comes to pvp healing..but I do feel that the other healer classes are better equipped at it for various reasons: regenerating group wards, immunities (like sanctuary), gust, steadfast, casting enhancers via AAs and mythicals, cleric-only items like Ethereal Mist Gauntlets, mythical clickies on short recast timers (such as Spirit Tap), gear proc chance increasers, etc. I also do not want us to receive copied abilities nor nerf other healer classes. That's why I made this post: for unique suggestions to be made.

You just joined Onyx recently, right Savne? So, you have the best geared groupmates and tanks in the game to support you. On the other hand, there's certainly going to be some pressure on you. Promise has been PvP'n with those guys for a long time, so they should be well aware what a Defiler's strengths and weaknesses are and how to best utilize you in PvP.

As far as unique suggestions, I'll take a shot at a few:

1. Call of Ancestors: Instead of just curing, for PvP, this spell will also give a 15 sec immunity to the effects it cures (interrupts also to be immune).

2. For PvP, the amount of our group ward is significantly reduced. As compensation, how about, for PvP only, reducing the cast time by 1 sec.

3. For PvP, reduce the recast time of our deaggro (area fear). My recommendation would be cutting it in half.

4. Fix crystallized essence so that it becomes a meaningful second group heal.

I think these would help, and, except for the 4th one, because they only apply in PvP would not have unintended OP'ness for PvE.

Actually I C fery few Defilers (even fewer Mistics) for regular PvP wars reasons are stated above so I wont repeat myself here so I focus on my personal experiance:

My group (Def,Brig,Wizzy,SK) VS (one I repeat ONE sin + another brigand that comes lil later)

We was hunting sin jump on us (typical). He atacked wizzy till the red before I manage 2 react casted Deathward,Solo ward on my squischy mage and group ward. After his energy stops 2 drop sin runs away we fallow. In like 10-15s I got instant killed by brigand whou totaly suprise me (I even didn`t manage 2 cast my emergency fear)...game over

I know that SK should react faster I know that I should seen that brig comming etc etc.but in normal condition of PvP fight with all that running it`s almost imposiblle for defiler 2 solo heal PvP group
