I'm asking for several reasons, one of them being I am going to try a healer and it seems Defilers are in demand.

Also after reviewing the different healer types it looks to be a good fit as I enjoy evil charaters, SoW and Pets... match made in heaven right? However the lack of posts on this forum and people joking about poor Defilers trying to level puts me off a bit. Is this something I'll be hating until I hit 70+ and the groups start rolling in. Or, are there some guides that give an easier road map to level 70 as a more solo Defiler until I get into grouping 24/7?

Any help is appreciated!

We solo slow. SoW is only 20% speed and can't be enhanced, so we still use totems or mounts most of the time.

We heal well though -- get in a group and there's not much to complain about.

But, we solo so slowly, that tbh, I won't play my defiler at all unless I see a group in the 50's channel saying they need a healer AND I'm not really doing anything else.

I did most of my leveling duo with a necro. We are very survivable soloers, but very slow. I don't think that I would have stuck it out without my necro friend. If you look at some of the older posts some defilers say they have found a way to get decent solo dps, I haven't really tried any dps specs, since my focus is on heals and cures.

I played as a Mystic until near the end of RoK era. I betrayed to help get our guild through VP, and it worked.

Outside the raid scene I'm finding the defiler to be not nearly as fun as my Mystic was. (In fact, rather than ever betray again I'm leveling another Mystic, up to level 36 so far... lol.)

Defilers are still superior healers, in most scenarios. But it ends there. We don't DPS, we don't have gear or AA's that give us the type of beneficial spell haste Mystics have.

If you go down the INT line in the shaman tree you can get some reasonable spell crit. I tried going down that line for a solo spec (To work on daily quests in the Moors) and stuck it in my mirror and haven't tried it out yet. (Made it like a month ago too lol.) but I think it will work well...

I've been playing my Trouby outside raids most of the time now. Defilers CAN solo... they just do it embarrassingly slow.

Last night in Palace of the Ancient one I was laughing about how little DPS I did.. someone said "You just parsed 2k".. so I said "No, I parsed 500dps, peace of mind and perfection of the maestro just parsed 1500"

yep, we're very slow soloers and don't do much dps on raids. in group/raid healing situations, defilers are very strong healers because of how preventative healers work. basically you aren't healing people, you are adding health to them above and beyond what their health appears on your screen. healers who just heal, they get to clean up after you're done.
