Im wondering. Im 78 as of tonight and am looking to tank some scary stuff when i get to 80. What all should i be looking at before i try to start tanking raids? Is there a good zone for beginners? What kind of gear should i be looking for? My guild will probly never be doing the real end game stuff (Till its old stuff) but i would like to be abile to do it when we do the "Old" stuff

If you don't think your ready to jump into T8 stull start with the older content. Lots of AA and fun to be had. Mentor down and run the DoF raids. Run Labs, do the contested nameds like Mutegenic and 3 princes in KoS. Run the EoF zones - Emerald Halls, MMIS, etc. The older zones are still alot of fun and will help oyu learn to pull and work together as a team. The loot will not be rewarding for you but if you dont mind getting the older loot to learn then its great fun and AA and xp for your guild. Wehn ready to try t8 I suggest PR first. The first 4 nameds are fairly easy to learn for a new guild. Get your resists up and their is some good gear in there for a begingin guild.

Research, research, research. Read up on what others have written about the zones. Get ACT and learn to use it - make sure you have someone on timers at all times. In more hardcore guilds usually everyone is running their own parser/time but when starting out have 1 person calling timers and 1-2 back ups checking them. Have fun.

Just get TSO gear and your epic weapon. I recommend Shard of Hate as your first raid zone because your group can get some practice on what it's like to be in a raid and fight mobs that live longer than 30 seconds. The trash is easy to kill and drops really good loot. The first couple of named will get your raid used to working with memwipes/shuffles and utilizing your off tank and threat snaps/though snap/magnetic note all working together. And they also drop really good gear compared to the other T1 zones.

Protector's Realm is ok, but a brand new raid team will probably struggle to kill even one named. Give it a try though, worse case you wipe and go home defeated.

If you're new to raiding, the first four skeleton bosses in Protector's Realm, the trash mobs in Shard of Hate, and the two yellow-con named in Shard of Hate (Demetrius Crane and Dreadlord D'Somni) are as easy as it gets for Tier 8. They all have easy and predictable patterns and no real surprises that a beginning raid force couldn't easily handle.

Once you've mastered these easy challenges, you start working your way through the RoK progression. Once your raid force has a full set of Mythicals and several VP set pieces, you'll be ready to try your luck in TSO.

Like the previous poster said, get your TSO gear (Champion's Mirror is best), at least your Fabled epic weapon, a good Tower shield, and some good Legendary-quality jewelry and you'll be ready to tank the beginning level content.

There are a set of raids specifically designed as an introduction to raiding - the guild writ raids.

Unfortunately they only scale up to level 70 and give no loot worth talking about anymore, but they do give good AA xp the first time.

They are x2 raids but can be done by 8/9 people. Each introduces a new trick, e.g. in the second one all the mobs memwipe; in the third they use AE stuns.
