So my friends finally convinced me to join their weekend live-action roleplay session, and I want to make a weapon. Obviously, I want to make an EverQuest II weapon, and since my main is a Swash, I want to make Charm's Way. I'm about to log in now and do some screenshooting for reference.

I've never made a fictional weapon before - any tips? I want it to look as much like the real thing as possible, but it must be safe to hit someone with. I plan to use something like a bit of a wooden dowel for the grip, possibly some type of cardboard for the crossguard, and then carve the blade out of camp foam (while possibly using some kind of small but stiff wire as a sort of skeleton for the blade, though I'd have to make sure that the tip wouldn't be able to poke someone). Obviously, I wouldn't be able to make it spin, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Anyway, like I said, any tips for making a replica safe-to-hit-people-with Charm would be appreciated.

I have no advice, because I'm really bad at that stuff, but wow, I would love to see it when you're done.

I think the materials you're planning on using would work well, though. Good luck and have fun, LARPing is a LOT of fun.
