Could anyone share some light as to why when I try to enter game my computer screen goes black and monitor light flashes on/off. I can hear all game sounds and can even move around but no video. When I hit Alt+Enter for windowed mode, it pops up and plays fine.

I am sure this is my computers issue but makes no sense to me. It just started happening to me recently but the only change I made was using Windows One Care. I uninstalled it and still the problems persist.

Help!

What kind of graphics card are you using? Did you upgrade to a new card recently or have you been using this same one for a while?

If you're using an ATI card then you might want to try turning off adaptive antialiasing, set AA/AF to application controlled, and turn off catalyst AI. Any one of those could be causing a problem like the one you're experiencing. Disabling them one by one should pinpoint the issue.

Same card I have had for over two years. I will double check AA/AF and see if that helps. Never fooled with the setting on it before though and game worked fine. I will post back if it makes a difference. Thanks, DanielH.

Well I manually set all the AA and AF features to application controlled and it still does the same thing. When I log in in windowed mode, it plays fine. If I Alt-Enter to go to full screen, It blacks out. It is still running with sound etc, but I cannot see.

Really not sure what else to check. I have a Intel E6550 chip with 4 Gb of ddr2 800 ram. I am running Windows Vista premium edition. And as previously stated, I have a Geforce 8600 GTS card with latest Nvidia drivers from there site.

Any other insights?

Since you are not using an ATI card, I doubt the problem is being caused by those graphics card settings. Let's make sure that a program in the background isn't interferring with the game in some way.

To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

If the problem persists after trying that then please post some of the DXdiag/MSinfo results requested in the sticky post. Hopefully that will provide us with enough information to find the issue.
