Intel Core (i7) 940 @ 2.93GHz LGA1366 1MB L2 Cache 8MB L3 CacheIntel X58 Chipset MainboardDual Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 896MB PCI-e Video Cards (with the current drivers 182.06 from 2/9/2009)Realtek ALC888 sound card6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 Tri Channel Memory1TB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM HDD

I play the game in SLI and full screen. While in game if I (CTRL / ENT) to windowed mode I cannot go back to full screen or my entire system freezes and I have to reboot. I 'can' play the game in full screen and window in and out -only- if I am not in SLI mode.

I spoke with phone tech support and he seemed to believe that my video card is not supported yet, and perhaps your drivers haven't caught up to the newer chipset? He also told me to If I try to start the game in windowed mode instead of full screen using SLI, but I crash immediately.

I know EQ2 can be played in SLI mode. I have 2 other guildmates I spoke to last night playing in SLI and one uses Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 cards, but his chipset is older then mine, so I cannot use the older drivers as the board doesn't recognize the SLI on them.

Is there any solution for this so I can play in SLI and be able to window in and out, or at least be in windowed mode?

Is there a reason you are trying to play in SLI mode? Everquest 2 was programmed before SLI hit the market and wasn't built with the feature in mind. Performance gains will be very small if there's any gain at all, and the crashes are hurting your regular gameplay.

I don't use SLI myself, but my friend who does simply disables it when starting EQ2.

I have tried the drivers going back to November which are posted on your knowledge base. The same thing happens. I crash when I try to play in windows mode (whether I start that way or go in to windows mode while in game while in sli).

I cannot go back farther then November as my chipset is too new and it doesn't recognize the drivers prior to November and I cannot enable sli with them.

So, do you have any other advice? Or, do I need to wait until EQ2 catches up? I'm not sure at this point.

Greetings,

You might want to make sure that your chipset drivers are updated as well. The chipset directly interacts with the graphics card and a problem with those drivers could be causing an issue as well.

Besides that, lets also disable some background programs to make sure it's not a conflict of some sort. To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

Something that wasn't mentioned, are you using 1 or 2 monitors as with the updated SLI setup I see you can now use 2 and there were 3 different modes to use it in while using the 2 monitors.

I ran SLI on 2x7900's for a while, performance boost wasn't worth the extra card but it did run with no crashing.

I had this same problem with the 295's slied as well.

I eventually solved it so I thought I would share what I did. Right click the eq2 icon goto properties. Under the compatability tab your going to see a Settings area. Make sure the 3 following things are checked (enabled). I did this and it solved all of my problems, now I can SLI with multi monitor support all that I want .

And to TSR-DanielH,

PCI-Expresses 1.0 running Nvidia SLI was released Late August 2004

EQ2 was released November 8, 2004

Obiviously the game was under dev work for some time, however, nvidia had been coming up with SLI and PCIe card designs ever since 2002 when the card spec came out. And the game even boasted a press release stating that SLI was supported. Grant it SLI dosn't do much but it helps in this game.
You're right that SLI was released before or around the time EQ2 launched. If I remember correctly, I bought my 6800ultra back in 2004 and got Everquest 2 shortly afterwards. Perception of time has never been one of my strong suits as some of my longer EQ2 weekends would suggest.
