View Full Version : New Assassin

Just thought I would toss out an introduction. I am new to EQ2. I am coming from WOW, WAR, LOTRO, AOC, VG and wow was my first mmo and my longest stay. I must say I am enjoyin gthis game a lot more, I love all the races, classes etc. I have always played a tank, dps warrior, healer etc. and I wanted something different in this game. I have played the bruiser, inquisitor, shaman, brigand and swashbuckly to at least level 15 before trying the assassin. I love the assassin it just fits my playstyle perfectly. I am now level 16 and I have the 4 aa's in str, 2 in the next skill and I am working my way along and loving it. I have the hemotoxin poison as I am going alchemy but it looks like its hit or miss on which to use based on the mob so I can just test that out myself. Any recommendations for a total noob assassin on eq2?

Re-roll as a Dark Elf if you are still under level 30. You will not regret it later. Especially if you are going alchy. Also, something I found very useful was to put my first 5 aa's into cheap shot. Makes solo'ing MUCH easier with the extended stun length.

I went Kerran Assassin. Why? Cos then you got Predator skills and what is the ultimate predator but a Feline. Actually, my Kerran makes a great Assassin.

However, with all her Stealth Only spells and having to be behind the mob for the most part of the rest of her combat skills, she is not easy to solo when my small Guild is not on.

For that reason I also made a Swashie who can solo and has face to face CAs unlike the Assassin.

If you stick with your Assassin it is awesome. I am only using Adept 1 apells as at L 73 thye are too expensive right now - 9 plat at the least per Adept 3, and she still does a cool nearly 5,000 damage with one Stealther and Behind shot! Oh and she uses poisons too so you get poison damage on top of that.

You can stack poisons and use one of each of the 3 categories of poison - I use Grandmaster's (cos L 73) Mental Breech, Grandmaster's Enfeebling, and Grandmaster's um.. have to look it up! lol will edit in shortly. But plenty articles on the poisons anyway.

I am going to try the dark elf and see how it stands up. I didnt like the ratonga either. Are there any sites to see what the gear looks like and try it on and what not.

Yes it is In-game and called The Dressing Room. All you do is highlight the armor you want to look at, hold down the Control key and click the item. A wondow opens with you wearing the gear.

As for pix, there are literally hundreds of combos of possible armor. Try Google cos I doubt anyone has taken screenies of many types of armor. For a start you have the MC armor from L 20 up every 10-20 levels, then there is all the Dropped armor, and the armor quests, and given these are all pieces of armor you can see the combos are about endless.

You can get item links from lootdb.com by copying the item link and pasting it in a chat channel (I usually use say in a quiet area).

Male dark elves look lame and girlish, but you can get a petrified race eye off the broker or from the collection quests and look like whatever race you want. The bad thing is you can't pick what your illusion looks like.

Not true. Good Assassin equivalent is a Swashbuckler, not Ranger. I know for sure as I have a L 79 Swashie and L 73 Assassin!

If you Betray, you have to lose your Evil Class, and become the Good Class equivalent.

If you are in Kelethin and want to live in Qeynos, that is NOT Betrayal. Same if you live in Neriak and want to live in Freeport. It is just a change of City. Then you talk to the Guild manager in the city of your choice, do 2 very simple set quests, and you are a Citizen with a whole new Call Home.

Hmm, I am sitting here, In Game, at Character Creation and guess what? Assassin, Swashbuckler, and Brigand are the Rogue classes!

Ranger is .. a Ranger class, there is no other one on it. And it is Good Aligned.

Swashbuckler is the only Good Aligned Rogue, the other 2, Brigand and Assassin are Evil.

Now. as to what I said about Assassins Betraying and being Swashbucklers, in my opinion, the Swashie is better than the Assassin in some areas, but has somewhat lesser damage. However unlike the Assassin, all her atttacks do not need to be Stealthed and from behind. And she can be a mini Tank too in a small group.

Her AA line gives her the awesome Combat Art called Walk The Plank which makes the mob turn its back to her long enough to get off her 4 best Behind Positional CA's and do awesome damage. And she can Solo easily, which the Assassin cannot. The Assassin is weak fighting more than one mob face to face, and her AOEs are all Stealthed. Impossible to go into Stealth while under attack so that nerfs you right away. The Swashie loves face to face as her AOEs are not Stealthed.

My L 73 Assassin's top Adept 1 spell does 4,000 damage from behind and is Stealthed.

My L 79 Swashie's top L 79 Adept 3 spell does aboput 3,000 odd damage and is not Stealthed.

If you want more information on both my character's spells, PM me here and I will do it for you - at 22 CAs each. not doing it here unless assked, lol.

Swashie has Poisons, like the Assassin, has Positional Attacks like the Assasin, BUT she does not have to be Stealthed to do strikes from behind or the side EXCEPT for one only that needs Stealth.

Swashie has Stealth for herself, and Smuggle to make her Party invisible for 10 minutes.

So it is no hardship becomming a Swashie if you Betray. I have no idea about a Ranger, sorry, never tried one, but as I am in Character Creation right now, I do think I will try one...

Derkin@Antonia Bayle wrote:
Don't listen to Kitsune.
Not doubting you, but I would be interested in the Link to information that the Character Creation screen is wrong, because it is also wrong in Test too. Seems it is a huge error for SOE to have.

However, isn't Predator just the AA line more than anything? The days when we actually got Predator Racial skills are long gone. In fact I remember them changing that issue.

They are all in the Scout Class, of which the Rogue and Predator are a sub category, not a main one, as far as I can see?? After all, they are all in this group of Scout forums.
When they launched EoF and the fae they changed what the character selection screen looks like. For some reason they decided to put assassins with the rogues on character select even though that is wrong. It has been like that ever since, but none-the-less assassins are predators. That's why assassins and rangers both share the predator AA tree.

http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Class

Since rangers and assassins, while both predators, have such different play styles, they grouped the assassin with the rogues, because they do have a similar play style. And as for the clueless swashbuckler, many of the assassin stealth attacks can be used while facing the mob, including the 2 big ones.
