Although this comic is not directly related to EQII, I did mention the game in the commentary.

EQII was one of the first MMOGs to allow players to customize chat colors. This meant that Brakk went from not being able to read chat at all, to merely wilfuly ignoring it. His chat palette is HIDEOUS to say the least, but at least he can see it properly.

You see, the Troll is COLORBLIND.

Thanks to EQII, more and more games offer color options. Sure, others may have implemented the feature merely because gamers said, "Well, EQII does it and besides I don't like my guild chat in pink," but I am still grateful.

;-)#

Brasse

She'd probably have a pink conniption fit if she ever saw Kirstie's pink unicorn... with pink hearts and the erollisi pink sparkles from the hooves .

Heh, the comic reminds me of the time I found out a Guardian friend was colour blind.

One night when he was mentored to us (this was back when the cap was 70), he kept pulling and pulling and omg pulling fast yellows and oranges. We would barely survive the fights, he was tanking on his L70, my husband was on his then L45 Paladin, and I'm on my then L45 Fury (who I later betrayed back to Warden when the new betrayal system went live).

Finally I said, "Good lords, what's WITH you with these?"

Him: "What do you mean?"

Me: "Damned things are YELLOW AND ORANGE!"

Him: *pause* "They are? I thought they were green..."

Me: "WHAT?!"

Him: "I'm color blind."

Me: "...?!...[realization hits]...yanno, that explains a LOT about how you'll just leap into a pack of mobs like a mad man..."

Him: "*laugh* Yeah..."

After that, we helped him adjust his colour on the mob text to differentiate. He didn't know you could change the colour. After that, things were a little more sane.

After reading the commentary for the comic this question has to be asked... Just how many colors of ale does eq2 support out of the 34?

More graphics designers -- including game designers -- need the Visibone reference charts. The gold-blue square in the lower left corner is how the colors in the main chart look if you have red-green colorblindness.

I once worked for a company where all the upper management had red-green colorblindness, and that means that I had to make sure we were ALL happy with my esthetic choices for web design and marketing collateral. Unsurprisingly, our website was blue and gold.

That is indeed an excellent chart, thank you.

I am going to get one for myself!

;-)#

If you look around there are also some nice color filter which you can use to transfer a picture into a typical colorblind sets. This site was a great help to me creating a website with colorblindness in mind: http://www.vischeck.com/
