I just started tinkering, bought the counters and the only available blueprints for the crosstrainer boots. I was told in chat to just keep trying to make these to get skill-ups even though they con red, very hard. First try, I fail but get 2 points. Later in the day I went back and tried 8 more times. Almost every time I made the boots and a piece of tin or lead (forget which) but never got another skillup. My skill is still at 2. Is this normal? If so it's kind of err, unfun. Are there any other blueprints, even drops available to start out?

It is a little difficult to get started and sometimes it takes 10 or more combines to get a skillup. Just keep at it if you really want to be a tinkerer. There will be times when you skill up on every combine and times when you don't for a long time. The transmutting and tinkering are after all a timesink.

Thanks for the response. Ok, I'll keep at it. One more thing....I forgot to mention that I don't actually get anything to counter while crafting unlike the normal tradeskills...is that normal? At what point should I be seeing things come up to counter? I think I am paranoid that it isn't working properly and I'm wasting my time instead of just sinking it

Incidentally, I'm having trouble with skill-ups too: 3 hours Tinkering and only lvl 14. Think it could be related?

I don't think tinkering and transmuter combines have reactions at all. I have both, haven't done any combines for a while on them but I'm pretty sure.

I just raised my skill from 0 to over 100 in a few hours yesterday. I can confirm tinkering is working fine. It is normal to not get events to counter.

Best way to level tinkering is to spam progress until you fill the first "level" and hit the stop button. You still get the item, you still get the same chance of skill up but you dont get your crafting mats back. Yes you eat more mats this way but vs the return on going pristine is not worth it IMHO

Tinkering 1-50 are hell levels. Then it gets a LOT easier. Like Raz said, as soon as you get the first bar of progress filled, STOP. You will blow through thousands of loams but level fastest. Can get tinkering to 400 in 3-4 days.

Get the counters from the merchant next to the master. No wonder you are having problems.

There are no "events" to counter in tinkering - never have been.

And remember (this one has caught me out a couple of times) you can only get skill-ups on tinkering up to your character level (which ever is highest - adventure or crafter).
