Hiyas. i Duo my swashbuckler alot with my wifes fury so i tent to "tank" alot for her i know im not a true heavy tank but but so far for everything but ^^^ mobs i seem to tank them fine while my hunny heals me and nukes them to death.

im 18 points down the stamina line and the extra defense with the shield has really help me so has the taunt, what i wanna know is later on when we are in our 70-80's if im still heavy stamina & strength will i be a decent enough pseudo tank to of tank trash mobs and peal aggro off the squishees in high end dungeon groups or raid groups and fill the light tank role? or do i need to stop now role a berserker for a dps/emergency tank role?

Dont get me wrong i love my swashy for its damage and decent durability i like the rogue feel with extra durability but with durability im not interested in being a pure squishy scout class and murderin machine. will groups only take me if im an absolute murdering machine?

Thank you for all your help

raid = no way in hell; it's not even worth it because you are picked up on raids for DPS not offtank. Only mob I personally ever was needed to tank was the Armor Suit in MMIS.

hard/very hard TSO instances I'd have to say no also. The mobs are deep yellow and hit us very hard. You'd need more healing thus having less dps thus taking longer to kill thus taking more damage thus needing more healing ..., it's a vicious circle.

At 80 you should be able to tank through RoK and easy TSO instances with better than average gear.

The 3 infused shard jewlery sets -think it was- relcaimed, rumbler, stone tower are very good for tank gear set up for those slots. You can pick up BP (group heal proc) of the Soul Lancer set (pick up the Helm too for the +20/+20 stat increase and the defense) at least 3 more in the Dauntless set for the Greater Lifetap (getting all 5 for parry aint all that really but it's up to you). Don't forget to do your moors charm quest for the Act of Survival proc.

Later on, if you do not have your epic yet, you can go and do the Greenmist HQ if you can happen to get the starter to it out of hard Fens. Excellent tank sword for the scout due to the mitigation debuff and tap.

Get yourself an AA mirror so you dont get laughed at and booted out of an instance group when you show up at the zone in sporting your sword and board.

Thanks for the reply! since im still new here most of what you said is french to me heheim no where near 70'80's but i get the gist ill not be taken seriously in raids if im not a murderin machine.

Whats this aa mirror your talking about will it allow me to be a murcerin machine for raids and let me be a light tank duoing with my hunny? i hope so because i sure like the sneaking around & back stabbing/pickpocketing better than being a heavy tank taunt bot! but id also like to be a decent light tank for general world adventurin with my hunnies Fury

Introduced with the RoK expansion, there is a 40,000+ crafting faction recipe. These crafters can make the Mirror of Reflected Achievements. In order to make one, they'll need a Smoldering Reflective Shard (from the broker) and some 70's junk crafting stuff (which they'll be able to supply).

Let me sum it up for you. I'm a Brigand, which is the other half of the Rogue archetype family. If you're a DPS rogue, then you're looking at dual wielding with the Str & Agi trees. Or maybe single wielding with Wis & Str. Though I've never been a big fan of the Wis tree.

But we aren't tanks. Let's be clear on that. Now in my group AA build, I do have x8 ranks in the +1% health Sta AA. This still doesn't make me a tank. While I'm more durable than your average scout (which is neccessary for when my big debuffs potentially steal aggro), I don't have the plate mitigation neccessary to take the abuse of TSO named mobs. Having said that, there are Rogue tanks out there that are quite good at their job. Yet even they can only tank heroic grade content. Raid content has no room for a Rogue tank.

You will be fine for outdoor, blue heroics, and standard mobs. However, you will go splat trying to tank instances, and raids are laughing if you try.

Just for fun I made a tankish swashy spec. I took sta and int and part of the str line. I took defensive oriented stuff in all the other AA pages. I have around 140aa and T1 and T2 tso armor.

With just my buffs and in defensive mode and offhand shield I'm at a little over 10k hp and my mitigation is around 55 and avoidance around 68. Would need to be online to look it up exactly. I take a DPS hit of around 20-25% vs training dummy vs my more dps oriented build.

A couple days ago I was tanking in chelish killing those acidic blobs. Those are 83^^^ and generally pretty tough. I had three druids with me, we were a 4 person group. I had no problems tanking them keeping my healers agro free and on one bad pull I even survived killing two at once. So yes a swashy can make a good tank with the right spec if your focus on it. No you won't be tanking raid mobs but I can handle pretty much any group stuff in normal instances.

I actually made this spec after dying a bunch of time mentoring a lowish tank in varsoons. He couldn't keep agro for crap and the mobs were orange con since I was mentoring him. They would pound me down pretty fast. After my 4th death I told the group I was gonna change my spec and I used the tank one I was toying with. After that I tanked the entire instance even handling two orange con mobs at once. The tank was very impressed Course that was mentored and I think mentoring is overpowered but the point was the difference. In the first case one orange con mob would kill me faster then the healers could heal me. In the second I could take two of them and the healers had no issues.

I have been meaning to do an analysis with ACT to compare mitigation. What I do know is that in varsoon my damage that I took was about 40% less then the tank. So he took 100 and I took 60 over the average of the time I was in tank mode.

ok thanks for the info!

So the +48 stamina, +20 % to shield effectiveness, +13% health, and the 33% boost to my mitigation by maxing out the Stamina line wont really help me that much for "light tanking" in my defensive stance for nont raid stuff?

i know i sound like a newb but whats the point then of the add a whole bunch of defense and taunts & aggro building tools & effects? if we are meant purely for DPS what have so many extra aggro gaining tools and deffensive stuff and not just give a bunch of damage boosting stuff and more aggro shedding abilities?

So basicly if i wanna tank a lil for my hunny & do some dps and not be a tauntbot i need to roll a berserker? as a berserker will i be accepted as a secondary tank for raids or will i be required to be maintank tauntbot?

Thanks again for any and all your info you have and for your patience for my newbish questions.

With a tank spec and decent gear you'll be able to tank the easier TSO instances. Even without a tank spec and without very good gear, before TSO came out, I could tank CoA, VoES, etc, with my swash.

No, you won't be off tanking in raids, you wont need to, there should be plenty of real tanks. But if you're grouping in an instance and the tank goes down you should be able to pick up aggro and as long as your healer(s) aren't asleep at the wheel they should be able to keep you alive long enough to kill the mob or res the tank.
