Greetings,

It seems that some people have been crashing since the most recent patch with an 'Exception Handler Reentered' error. I'm trying to gather some basic information to find a link between these cases. If you have a moment, please respond with the information listed below so we can investigate further:

Processor:Graphics Card:Sound Card:RAM:

According to the posts I have read so far, it seems to be crashing people immediately after logging in to game. If you are crashing at a different point, please note that in your response.

In at least one case this has been corrected by performing a cleanboot on the computer. Before posting your information I would advise trying the following:

To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

Has any progress been made on this error?
Ok...So I really wanted to play EQ and I decided to try out the Test Server...I installed it and got the same error...But after clicking the ok button the screen went dark and then the SOE screen came up. Oh Joy! I created a new toon on the test server and logged in. All was well for like 5 minutes and then EQ just died....went away...no errors...nothing.

So I launch the patcher/launcher again....And try to play on the real game (AB server for me) and this time it works...I don't get it. But I am grateful. Maybe something was patched/installed during the Test Server session? I don't know. But I can now log into AB and play my old toons. Yay!

Good luck to anyone else having this error.

I had this problem on a brand new laptop, so drivers were up to date. The MSCONFIG startup solution recommender here worked for me. However, as with XP, on Vista the two files SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY were not present in the MSCONFIG startup menu. So I just unticked all boxes, rebooted, and now it works.

Is there any explanation as to why this happpened?

I am essentially bumping this post to keep it at the top of the list as best possible. It has been 3 weeks since the last posting regarding this issue. I was told in my attempts to correct things that the problem is video card related because i'm using a laptop. I do not believe this to be so considering the other post is not a video found inside laptops. Please keep this issue in the forefront as it's a major pain to have paid for something that we are incapable of receiving...

A few thoughts...could the issue be related to running macafee?

Could the issue be an account related issue at login?

Could the version of internet explorer be the root of corrupting a file during download?

I'm curious to see some answers about these particular questions in an attempt to play the game again.

Has this been resolved? I try to hit play from the station thing and it just crashes wiht the Exception Handler Reentered thing. Good thing I downloaded the trial only, purchasing the full game would have been a waste of money. Its been nearly 4 months, how has this issue NOT been resolved?

NOW you have done it .. you keep adding crap that supose to fix stuff.. well i wasn't broken til today .. what ever it was that u added , now can't even log on . Crashes as soon as it goes to load the after the log in page .. I have done everything that the forums said to try , and tried a few more .. I have been playing this game almost when it was released and before that eq1 , and ther again when it first came out . At this point can't say way . The constant bugs , the rude people , hardly any support what so ever . I know u don't give a crap, just blow me off .. But i'm gonna tell u keep this up , You will lose the entire client base u have.

Not sure if this will apply for everyone, but here's the problem I had and how I fixed it:

After the patch I was unable to log in to the game - it kept giving me an error and crashing (after launch). To fix this, I went in and deleted the Everquest2pakspatch.vpk file and launched the program again. No problems since. Hope this helps some.

Customer service was no help, guess will just have to wait for their lazy [Removed for Content] to fix it... which more than likely won't happen.

I downloaded the free trial "Play the Fae" months ago, and had the exact same problem. I had quite a lengthy back-and-forth with customer support for a few days, but they were not able to solve the problem, and at one point they just stopped replying all together. When I asked about this, they replied they had no idea what the problem was, but they would be looking into it some more. This I received on the very last day of the free trial (so that's a 14-day wait to get the confirmation they didn't know what the heck was going on). Would I mind hanging in there for a bit longer? I replied not to bother, because I wasn't about to pay for something I couldn't even get started.

Fast forward to today. I recently read some good things about EQ2 and decided to give it another shot. Needless to say, the problem has not been solved in the mean time.

So, my simple question is this: is there a fix for this problem now? Bear in mind that nothing proposed here works. The files people say to delete, for instance, I don't even have, because I haven't seen one second of the game yet. I refuse to believe the problem is at my end, when I haven't had these problems with any other MMO I am currently playing or have played in the past (WoW, LotRO, AoC, WAR, GW).

Not a good way of getting new players in, SOE.

issue.

the question i hae is:

when the game crashes due to an out of memory exception (which it appears the game is causing)

is the eq2recent file altered in some way that corrupts it?

i suspect this is just one scenario that people are experiencing though, having read through this thread before posting.

thank you

I got this specific 'Exception Handler' crash today, but have been playing on and off already today. Thing is I know what is causing it for me. I had turned off Vista's UAC.

longer detailed version;

Last year I upgraded to Vista and after that I couldn't play any SOE games. I tried to find solutions, tried all I could and nothing worked, so I cancelled my subs and went playing elsewhere, WoW, LOTRO, EVE, WAR, AOC, FAllen Earth all work.

Sorry for the pre amble, but I'm just putting you where I got to today.

After a renewed search for info this week ( Ireally wanted to get back into EQ2) I stumbled across a post mentioning the dreaded UAC.

After I had installed Vista I soon tired of being an Admin but getting [Removed for Content] pop ups all the time asking to allow programs, so I turned off UAC. Yesterday I turned it back on, and SOE games work again.

I still hate the UAC so read a Windows forum post about editting the registry to 'RUNASADMIN' seeing as with UAC off, the tick box to do it is greyed out. With UAC off ( and the reg edit done) EQ2 wont run.

Looks like I'm stuck with UAC and the chance of sudden minining of my games while the Vista nanny panics about a minor program

Has there been any work done on this issue. I'm having it on a completely new install of XP. Installed the game with the station launcher, and it crashes. Uninstalled game, and installed with streaming client. Still the same crash. I posted in a new thread, but maybe it will get looked at here as well, since a lot of other people were experiencing the same problem. Here is the latest crash log.

SOEBuild=6177LSOEVersionString=2010/1/23 12:35:17

EVERQUEST2 CRASH LOG

==================================================
