i cannot log into eq 2, everytime i try it seems to get stuck at creating entities then skips it and boots me to the character select screen - OR - i get a message "server did not respond in a timely manner and may be backlogged. please try again in afew minutes." this is becoming increasingly frustrating. ive read other places that this is a vista 64 problem and seeing as im runnig it i cannot seem to find any solutions.ive tried updating all windows and graphics drivers everything is up to date, ive tried ipconfig /release and /renew to no avail. there are alot of people with this problem so i assume there is some solution for it

thanks in advance

I am having the same problem, I've tried every solution offered on these forums and there doesn't seem to be any working response for the matter.

So far, from what I've seen, possible solutions are...

Disable User Access Control in msconfig.exe

Make sure to run the EQ2 executable as administrator, can try enabling compatability mode for windows XP (right click on program, properties, compability, etc.)

Open ports on router/firewall (forwarding), allow EQ2/Everquest2.exe to run under windows security (built in firewall).

Run Lp2config.exe,EQ2.exe,Everquest2.exe with administrator priveleges

The list goes on, I've tried every single thing I could find and still getting the same problem as you.

My desktop runs on windows XP, and it is on the same network as my laptop (runnin on Vista), and my desktop works fine. Vista seems to have some issues with Everquest2.

I doubt this problem is being caused by Vista. This sounds like a firewall or antivirus issue. After an update some firewalls will block our game from accessing the internet since the file size changed. In most cases you can correct that problem by removing the game from the firewall's exception list before adding it back on. Let us know if the issue persists after trying.

I tried removing it from the windows firewall exception list and having it put back on automatically as I have seen suggested in some posts, however I am not even prompted to 'allow Everquest2 to access the internet'.

I have tried adding and removing the game from the list of exceptions but still get the same result.

The only firewall I have on this computer (vista) is the window's built in firewall, which I have turned off and set to not block anythin and still didn't get any results.

thanks for replying so quickly guys, i have a solution if you are using a DLINK router. go to portforward.com and select your type of modem and the game u wish to forward. dlink does not have enough ports to forward so it cannot do it unless u use DMZ mode, anyways its all explained on the site, thanks again!

I used the port information obtained off the forums here when I originally forwarded all the ports for the client/launchpad and still encountered the same error. Last night I tried using the portforward.com guide for my modem (Motorola SBG900) and ended up with the same exact setup I had prior to that, and the same non-results.

I am not very computer saavy, I know the basics and that's about it, but you seem pretty insistent in many of your posts on this matter that it is a connection/router issue. I don't understand why on my XP desktop, running off the same modem/router combo (without any ports forwarded) is able to connect without a hitch while my vista machine gets to the 'loading zone' portion then just boots me back to character select. I've tried switching between wireless/ethernet connection on both computers, and get the same results everytime. XP works, vista doesn't.

A summary, I suppose, of everything I've tried, not in any specific order:

-Disable UAC in msconfig.exe

-Run Everquest2.exe as administrator in windows XP compatability mode (tried without compatability mode as well)

-Right click/properties/run as administrator/compatability mode on EQ2.exe, Everquest2.exe, LPconfig (tried without compatability mode as well)

-Enable access to Everquest2/EQ2.exe in Windows Security/Firewall portion

-Remove Everquest2/EQ2.exe from list of allowed applications in Windows Security/Firewall portion, restart application and allow it be re-added to the list of accepted applications (though i was never prompted to do so after this step)

-Disabled Windows Firewall and stop application blocking process

-Disable WEP encryption on router (not that I thought it'd make much of a difference, just for kicks)

-Forwarded ports 3016-3021, 7000, 7010, 9700-9703, 9100, 32800-33000 as per Portforward.com's instructions

-Used an older cable modem (without a router) for a direct connection, same result.*

At this point in time, based off everything I've observed, I'm fairly certain it's not a router issue*. I am generally pretty quick to blame Vista in any situation like this, although it would appear that plenty of people are able to play just fine on Vista. Any other suggestions?

Forgot to mention the thirty-six or forty hours I spent re-downloading and re-patching after doing a clean uninstall of the game. Not to mention the additional twenty-two hours I spent patching and downloading on my desktop to confirm the previously held suspiscion that I loathe Vista.
