This isnt an 'NGE', this is a much needed update to get aggro back to hate based instead of DPS based.

And there has been no mention of an exact patch date.

And yet, every time any MMO comes out with a new patch, the forums are flooded with accusations of NGE.

Whether you like it or not, this update is just changing some buffs around. This is not NGE. If you mash your taunts and combat arts in defensive stance now instead of offensive stance, it's still not NGE. Making such a comparison is basically shorthand for posting "Feel free to ignore everything I have to say."

SWG... *sigh*

The NGE aside there is a very valid comparison between this "Much needed Combat Revamp GU51", EQ2 LU13 and the total of 3 Major Combat Revamps that SWG went through.

They caused A LOT of people who otherwise enjoyed the game to leave. And I foresee GU51 doing the same.

And those of you who never played SWG, need to stop talking about the game like you know what you are talking about.

Before the NGE there were combat revamps, very much in the style of what the EQ2 team is trying to shove down our throats now.

And with each SWG combat revamp, I saw my friends and guild mates get frustrated and leave, until I was the solo person living in an abandoned city.

But I kept playing because I enjoyed my class, and as one of the few Master Rangers left on Wanderhome I was raking in so many credits selling pristine harvests that I found the challenge of becoming the richest toon on the server replaced all the overt PVP and other elements I had enjoyed with my friends and guild. Then they brought out the NGE and the class that I had spent years learning and mastering was no longer the same (can you say removed completely!?!). So I quit.

LU13 nerfed Paladins so hard that it also made me leave EQ2 in disgust, only to be talked back into playing again in the time between EoF and RoK by a friend who promised me that the Paladin class had been (for the most part) "fixed".

And lo and behold, just when I really started to enjoy the game again, another SOE Combat Revamp rears it's ugly head.

I should have known it was too good to last...

She means that if a major bug is found that requires time to fix and test it could delay the LU. As for most of the players being upset, the few that I know that have actually tested things out on test are not too worried and most of the other tanks in my guild that I've been feeding numbers to are not too concerned either with the changes. For myself, I'll be able to hold aggro better when tanking no matter what the group/raid setup is and I'll be able to do more DPS when not tanking. Sounds like a win to me.

And in the meantime we lose a bunch more players.

Try living in the gmt +9 timezone. Doesn't mean you can't doa /testcopy add and check out the numbers or some of the baser mechanics you can build your raid tanking off of. I've been following monk and guard changes and am actually rather excited. I'm not happy about a few things, but hey, overall I think it will be a much better experience tanking PUGS and PURS which I do. Sorry, the elite of the elite aren't being catered to.

Since then however several things have changed that you might be surprised to see yourself better off than you were before. Paladins lose the crown of hate control (shadowknights are now the best at that), but they have since gained several survivability things they've been wanting for awhile (for instance parry like the other plate tanks). So, you have to hit more buttons now (in some situations it might even be more possible to hold aggro better now than it was with amends), but in return you gain some more survivability.

And when you are solo (if you solo) offensive stance will help your DPS enough that you kill faster. Some people look at just the numbers and worry about the 5% increase in incoming damage, but you're killing the mob more than 5% faster so really in testing you end up taking less damage over the course of the fight than you would with no stance because the fight ends faster.
