I just recently downloaded the free trial. When I launch the game, it goes to a black fullscreen first, then it goes back to the desktop with a black square in the top left corner. Music plays but nothing else happens. If I launch it in a window same things happens basicaly. All my drivers are up to date and all my other games work fine.

You set the game up to run in Vista as I posted in the links?

There is also this from the TSR....

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon.

Sometimes the Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled for the purposes of patching and should re-enable it after the issue has been resolved.

Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard. 2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box. 3. Scroll down the list and highlight ‘Disable UAC' then click Launch. 4. Restart your computer. 5. Run the patcher. The folder might be set as read only, though, and you'll need to go through the following steps if so:

1. Navigate to the Sony folder (Default: C:Program FilesSony)2. Right click the 'Sony' folder and select 'properties'3. Go to the 'General' tab4. Uncheck the box that says 'read-only' at the bottom of that window5. Select 'apply to all files/folders' when prompted

Make sure you are running the game by right clicking and selecting 'run as an administrator' as well.

Well it's still not working. The launcher loads, I click to launch the game, and I get a black screen with music and the everquest 2 cursor but nothing else happens.

Greetings,

It seems like your graphics card drivers are around a year out of date. I would definitely advise updating those at this point. Also, do you have either 'Adaptive antialiasing' or 'Catalyst AI' enabled through your graphics card options? If so, try disabling those features as they have been known to cause problems with the game. Let us know if the issue persists at that point.
