Well, my old computer was dying so I went out and bought the top of the line, came home and tried to install and log on to eq2. The new computer has Windows Vista of course. I can't log on, and get the repeated message "Download cancelled." Also, Vista or something on my new machine keeps saying "lp_plugin.exe has stopped working."

So I got on station.com and searched for help. The database gave me instructions to click on properties for the eq2 file and run as "xp servicepack 2". I did that and followed all the other instructions about the security tab. Still I get "download cancelled" and the other message. AAAAHHHHH. This is frustrating. Customer Support is closed. AAAAAHHHHH.

Has someone out there figured out how to fix this? Thanks.

If this happens when the patcher tries to download EverQuest.exe_delta it's because the EverQuest.exe process is running in the background.

Sometimes EverQuest fails to kill this process after you leave the game. Go into your processes and nuke it so the patcher can download the new exe.

After reading your post more carefully it looks like you were never able to log in to begin with so this probably doesn't apply.

I know you've done some of the Vista steps, but read carefully and double check that you're doing all of these steps:

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator"

Step 8 will need to be done whenever you start the game but you'll only need to do the other steps once.

I was having this problem today and Rascal's answer fixed it. Heck EverQuest2.exe was running in the background twice. Thus when the patcher downloaded the new version it couldn't reconstruct so it cancelled. Just wanted to say thanks to Rascal, nuked them both and it patched fine.

Well, this just happened to me and I'm glad I found this thread. I was already running as administrator but I checked the suggestions here and sure enough the EQ2 voice server .exe was still running in the processes. Shut it down and EQ2 started up just fine!
