Here are my (relevent) system specs:

4 GB DDR2 800

Radeon HD 3870

Intel E2200 processor

Vista 64

----

This is ticking me off. I'm playing the trial, and it's been working since I started playing perfectly fine.

Starting yesterday, this game will not launch. I didn't do anything. I just started up the Launcher, clicked 'Start,' and it acts like it's going to start up. The cursor changes, screen goes black, and then it boots me back to the desktop. My cursor is still the EQ2 cursor, and I can't click on anything on the desktop - if I alt+tab, it minimizes whatever the hell is going on to the taskbar. EQ2 shows up under the task manager. When I click on EQ2 in the taskbar, it pops up just a frame that I see my desktop through - nothing in it.

Magically it worked yesterday, I had been trying over and over to start it, and it worked somehow. No clue what I did.

The only thing I did before, was click on the 'Try Planetside' in the Launcher. That's the ONLY THING I have done between when the game worked fine and when all this crap started to happen.

I have restarted my computer, set it run in compatibality mode (which is a joke IMO, compatibility mode does NOTHING), run as admin. The only thing left to do is to reinstall the game, which I am trying to avoid.

Are you running an antivirus program on your computer? If so, which one?

Norton/McAfee/Kapersky will sometimes block our game after an update, which will create an error like the one you're experiencing.

I am encountering exactly the same problem. I installed eq2 from the TSO disks, started updating with the normal patcher, gave up because it was only downloading at 80k/s (on my 10Mb line btw), so tried using the station launcher to update it, which managed a whole 300k/s, and reduced the time to update. Now the game launches intermittently, with no perceivable pattern. When it works i press 'Play' and loads the game immediately, when it doesnt it just shows a black screen and task manager shows it as 'Not responding'.

My relevant stats:

Intel Q6700, win xp, 2gb ram, Radeon HD4850 with latest drivers, Creative audigy 2 zs, win xp sp3 fully updated, AVG antivirus, windows firewall.

I am extremely adverse to reinstalling the whole thing, considering it took well over 24 hours to update the first time, and i would actually like to get some use out of my subscription, rather than spend it all updating...

Cheers,

Phil

While that issue is usually caused by an antivirus of some type, its a possibility that another background application is interferring with it in some way. You might want to try removing all of the startup applications temporarily to see if that corrects the issue.

To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

AVG antivirus wont usually cause this problem. If you have it on active scanning, though, you'll probably want to disable that as well.
