2 Hander will increase your DPS but decrease your survivability.

If you are playing 2nd fiddle in a group (not MT) grab a good 2 hander with a nice damage spread and whack away. If you play regularly with a good healer, you can use a 2 hander when MTing as well ... just have to make sure they can tackle the damage spikes.

If you find yourself soloing w/ ease and not taking hits too badly, swap over to a 2 hander and it'll speed your soloing as well.

Just change out your Sword -n- Board and experience it for yourself ... you will find out when you can get away with it ... and when you can't

I have played sword and board from 1 to 71. Tried using 2 handers a couple times awhile soloing and it made me take a ton more damage. Considering I was dropping 900 Mit, and 25 str 25 sta 25 agi and a few hundred resists off my toon seemed to make a huge difference. It wasn't worth the extra damage for the longer downtimes.

I always start off with 2h and if struggling switch to board, even when MT or soloing. Naturally if I have experienced the pain from a zone with 2h previously I will start off with board and switch back to 2h if it's not as painful this time through.

Another tip as you get into 50-80 range is to have two sets of armour, one for DPS and one for Defense. It becomes almost like having a further 'stance' option and thereby gives more permutations. Once at 80 however this is not as useful, I have one set of gear again now but the procs etc more than make up for no longer being able to switch.

I will solo with a 2 hander, especially if the mobs are white con or lower.

I usually switch to sword/shield for groups (I don't raid). Most of my groups are pick-ups, so I rarely know enough about the healer to be comfortable with 2 hander. Also, esp in ROK and TSO, the mobs hit hard, so I like the additional survivability in group using the shield/sword.
