View Full Version : chamed tank = instant dead coercer

I've been trying to figure this out for a bit. I can be banging on the mob and not pull agro when the tank dies, as long as I do stuff like hit bewilder whenever it comes up. But on the xebnok fight, if I am hitting xebnok at all, then the instant I hear the tank say "charmed" in vent, I almost immediately have a very angry xebnok wanting to be my very special friend. If I'm lucky my dehates will make him somebody elses friend, but were first fighting him, "charmed" was followed immediately by a revive window.

Ok, what's up with this? Why do I, given the same mt and ot as in other fights pull such ridiculous agro, that I do not when the tank dies? The only thing I can think of is that when the tank dies, the buff dies with him, and that somehow my hate buff is producing some sort of backlash. I certainly can't be hitting the mob at that particular moment, or I am dead.

Of course there is the possibility that it is clearing the hate list somehow, and since I'm chain casting of course, I hit it next and pull agro like I was pulling. I really dont know, but I would like to know what's happening, and I suspect that something is not working quite right.

I'm not sure if its a bug but this has been happening for a long, long time. When the person holding aggro is charmed, mezzed or dies the next person to die is generally a Coercer or somebody else Transferring Hate to the target. I'm pretty sure it has to do with all the hate you're transferring to the tank suddenly being dropped. Its likely that even if you aren't parsing particularly high, you are still producing a load of threat. I've heard theories of mana regen or buffs giving extra threat but I've never heard anything specific proclaimed as fact. All I know is this has been happening for much longer then TSO is out and will likely continue to happen for quite a while, if not forever.

My suggestion is bring repair kits if your tank is getting charmed a lot, lol nobody likes it and I'm sure plenty of Coercers including myself understand your pain but I don't see this getting fixed anytime soon. All you really can do is use all the deaggro's (or -threat gear) you have, and hope. If you're really worried, equip all the Critical Mitigation and Dispersion/Displacement gear you have, its likely having that gear on will help you with that sort of fight anyway, or atleast your healers. All of that could help you out a few times or it could result in you getting one shot anyway but its a suggestion.

He charms 2 fighters, probably your MT and OT if you are not planning around that.

And why is this in the "In Testing Feedback" forum?

its in the testing feedback forum for the same reason the thread on memwipe is. This looks like a bug/problem, and I dont know how long its been happening if at all. I haven't been raiding as a coercer since the dawn of time. I never got to raid EoF back in t7. Also, its funny, but we only get one tank at a time charmed. Not sure what's up with that, they sure aren't calling it if more than one is. I do know that the mt and ot aren't getting charmed at the same time. One might go into a fit of "crying" though, lol. Wow the mental image of our charmed mt beating on our crying ot, is kind of unsettling.

I appreciate the sympathy at least. If you dont like dying, best to get out of the coercer business. I have figured out how to deal with it, and if I'm not hammering on him immediately when the charm hits, I'm usually ok. If I do get agro, I got a 50% shot at my deagro working. When I get my 4th piece, and can wear my tso armor pieces, it will most likely be substantially better. Got to love set bonuses.

Thanks to secretninja for answering my question, it is appreciated. yeah, it doesn't sound like its gonna be fixed any time soon, but hey we said the same thing about our reactives, so who knows.

when someone is charmed they are completely removed from the hate list of the mob, so what happens to all your hate that you put on the tank before he was charmed? take a guess.

Why would hate transferred to the tank be temporary? I wasn't aware there was "temporary" hate in EQ2 other than things like the Ranger Hawk.

if you really can't handle dying then you should reconsider raiding, it's just gotten worse over time.

Use two tanks on Xebnok - They'll switch out as one gets charmed. If they do it right, he may turn toward the mob, but he'll snap right back where he belongs. We use a third tank or a briggy to pick up the adds that come in.

Save bewilderment for when you need it on big fights. It's a positional deaggro so it immediately drops your hate position, as well as give you threat reduction and it casts fast - target through the mob and when you see there's no mob target anyone, it's targeting you, pop bewilderment fast. It should instantly turn to someone one else (often the ranger, but hey, every fight requires at least one ranger death). When we're killing trash or easy names, I just use it as extra dps or will pop in early in the fight when all the inital reactives hit and trigger.

It's almost a guarantee when the tank goes down that I'm fixin' to get pummeled. If I can't deaggro fast enough, I run it back to tank spot and hope my healers keep me up until someone else gets it. I've tanked all kinds of mobs for 5, 10, 15 seconds while tank gets back on his feet. It's kind of a nice break in routine now, although I'm sure my healers hate it
